From the Leadership Committee

Dear Members and Friends,

October was a busy month for TTN-DC. The much-anticipated Salon Series inspired by Robin Koval's talk on GRIT, were a great success.  Small groups of women gathered in members' homes to enjoy facilitated conversations on Building a Meaningful Foundation, a challenge to go with your guts make sensible choices that are right for you, a nd Building Out, a session devoted to pumping up your brain and challenging you to be a Re-inventor.

Here's what some of the participants had to say:

"I thought last night was very fun and very valuable.
It will be good for all of us to stay in touch.
I thought the room was full of women with GRIT!!!!  I loved it
." -- Anne T.

"Thanks for a lively and thought-provoking evening. There's so much we can learn from each other!" --  Barbara K.

"Thank you for developing and arranging the thought-provoking GRIT workshop!  It was lovely to meet each of you. I am grateful to everyone for the discussion and your thinking, which have given me food for thought since our time together." -- Doris H.

"I also thoroughly enjoyed being with such an amazing group of women and felt buoyed by the conversations and stories everyone shared."
-- Adrienne D.

Facilitators Nancy Reller and Peggy Conner drew inspiring, diverse, high energy women who discussed how to or if to wind down a much-loved career, and what its like to be in a second or third post-career life, among other hot topics.

The GRIT sessions were just a couple of many possible focuses for our small-group Salon Series.  If there are issues you would like to explore in the company of other TTN women, let us know!  We'd love to hear from you and plan another series around your areas of interest.

Next up for TTN-DC members and friends are a pair of local tours you won't want to miss!  All the details are below.

All best wishes for a very Happy Thanksgiving to you and your loved ones,

Renoir and Friends:
Luncheon of the Boating Party

Wednesday,
November 8, 2017,
11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Renoir and Friends: Luncheon of the Boating Party  focuses on The Phillips Collection's celebrated Luncheon of the Boating Party (1880-1881) by Pierre-Auguste Renoir and the diverse circle of friends who inspired it. The first exhibition to highlight this singular masterwork in more than 20 years, it is comprised of over 40 carefully chosen works-paintings, drawings, pastels, watercolors, and photographs from public and private collections around the world-that reveal the story of Luncheon of the Boating Party and the artists and patrons who were instrumental in its creator's success. Take a private tour and meet with the painting's conservator.

Spotlight on Washington: Women in Aviation at the National Air & Space Museum

Tuesday,
December 5, 2017

Time: 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Celebrate the contributions that women have made to aviation and space exploration on a  special private tour of National Air and Space Museum with docent Mike Deitchman.  From the famous exploits of Amelia Earhart to the lesser-known achievements of women like aeronautical engineer Beatrice Shilling,  inventor of  the provocatively named " Miss Shilling's orifice " -- a small metal disc that prevented engine stall in World War II fighter planes -- we'll marvel at stories and artifacts that bear witness to the sometimes unheralded impact of women on these critical fields. The tour will also include the Boeing Milestone gallery - recently remodeled with some of the most significant aviation and space exploration artifacts.  Stay on the Mall and enjoy lunch together.
