July is over and our summer continues on with hot weather and good times. The
3rd/4th of July was a wonderful holiday weekend for thousands that came and watched the fireworks over Liberty Bay. Thank you to
Viking Fest Corporation (Kathi Forsee and team) and all the local sponsors that made this tradition continue on with great success. On July 10, the
American Cancer Society and many volunteers from North Kitsap participated in the
Relay for Life, held at North Kitsap High School. It is always inspiring to see so many survivors of cancer, walking and raising money for others. On July 11 the
Kitsap Humane Society hosted
Petswalk with 350 registrants. In the best costume contest, a Doberman dressed as Richard Sherman won the prize. How can you not love a Doberman dressed in black hair braids, a Seahawk's jersey, and bright blue and green socks?

After many years of conversation, we now have a plan to enhance Lindvig Bridge. If you are not aware,
Lindvig Bridge is the road way that crosses Dogfish Creek heading toward Finn Hill. Every Norwegian town needs a troll under a bridge. We have contracted with artist
Jim Mayo to paint the bridge and create a troll under the bridge, next to the new trail that connects Fish Park to Nelson Park. Mr. Mayo recently finished the new mural on Sluys Bakery and also created the Viking Ship mural on Front Street.
This is his vision: Do Not Feed the Trolls! The bridge painting should be completed by the end of September.

There are more than several new businesses opening on Front Street. A new gift shop named
Found open on July 2 and is filled with great gift items, including fresh flowers and plants. I love their plant selections and the shop has a cozy, comfortable feeling when you walk in the door.
The Fat Apple Bakery opened July 28 with great food, locally sourced, and a terrific breakfast menu. I can't wait to try their Eggs in Purgatory: "Two farm fresh eggs poached in a savory tomato & fire-roasted red pepper sauce with gruyere." And the new
Maritime Museum and Visitors Center will have a soft opening on August 8. The Poulsbo Historical Society, the Historic Downtown Poulsbo Association and the Greater Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce have partnered to create a new presence on Front Street. The museum and visitors center is the culmination of hundreds of volunteer hours. Thank you all for your hard work and vision for downtown Poulsbo!

The Fat Apple Bakery and Found
Matson Street is now repaved after several months of construction. The City of Poulsbo replaced sewer and water lines up and down Matson, including replacement of lateral connections. This has been a dirty and noisy process for the neighbors living along the street. Hopefully, the new road will make the noise and inconvenience worthwhile. Thank you all for your patience. Next will be new pump station located next to
Lions Park. In order to install the pump station, the old swing set and a cherry tree will be removed. After the installation is complete, two new sets of swings will be located within the park. The first swing set has already been installed.

Kitsap Regional Coordinating Council (KRCC) is the organization where Kitsap County reviews and distributes federal funding for transportation. This is the source of money that we used to repave Viking Avenue, Lincoln Road, and soon the Noll Road corridor project. After 18 months of discussion, KRCC completed its reorganization and welcomed the new administrative staff from Triangle and Associates to support its work. In 2016, KRCC will divide almost
$15 million dollars in roads funds, so it must be well organized and ready for the federal funding cycle that happens every two years.
We are now updating the City's
Comprehensive Plan. The current plan can be found at:

. When our existing plan was adopted in 2009, it won the Vision 2040 Award from Puget Sound Regional Council, and the Governor's Smart Communities Award from the State of Washington. This new version will be concentrating on a few areas that need updating. I encourage all citizens to read the City of Poulsbo's Comprehensive Plan. It lays out a very clear vision for our future. We want to know your opinion about Poulsbo direction and vision.

August is here and that means you have two more opportunities to enjoy our annual summer treat of
Summer Nights at the Bay. Tuesday August 4, will be the Poulsbo Orchestra Viking Brass, and August 11 One Shot Molly will perform. With our beautiful weather, I highly recommend coming downtown to enjoy wonderful, free entertainment. Tuesday July 28, my husband and I enjoyed a Navy Band NW performance at the Pavilion. The Navy can really rock! Great band! And of course, Saturday August 8th is the
Block Party, our annual summer street dance. Thanks to all the merchants from downtown that gather together and provide a great summer event for the whole family. Come dance, enjoy our summer weather and be happy that you live in Poulsbo!

Comprehensive Plan Update - 2015 Community Questionnaire
The City of Poulsbo is updating its Comprehensive Plan, a high-level policy document required by the Growth Management Act, which helps direct the physical development of the City. We are asking the Poulsbo community to provide opinions and feedback on a number of topics, which will guide the City in future planning decisions and investments.

Sailing Camps Continue through the End of August
 Have you seen the clusters of small sailboats out on Liberty Bay this summer?
Poulsbo Parks and Recreation is continuing its youth sailing camps for ages 8-16 into August, and has added one more week, August 24-28. Students will learn sailing skills, boating safety, and to have fun in our Opti and FJ class dinghies.

Learn and Grow Preschool
The Learn and Grow Preschool offers two age-appropriate programs that encourage your child to explore the world around them. Classes involve a variety of fun and nurturing activities, including story time, finger plays, art, science experiments, discovery time, music and movement. The program has a teacher-student ratio of two teachers per 14 students. The Pre-K classes run one half hour longer to focus on the fine motor skills that will help prepare them for Kindergarten, including writing, cutting, letters, numbers, etc., as well as listening and social skills. It's Almost Time to Register for Fall/Winter Programs!
The Poulsbo Parks and Recreation Fall/Winter Activity Guide will be available the last week of August. The guide will include classes and programs for youth, adults and senior excursions for September 2015-March 2016.
