Strive to be more
Dear Parents,
It is with sadness that I share the news that
Mrs. McCormack's mother, Jeanne Synan, passed away peacefully at her home in West Springfield, Massachusetts, on Sunday, March 4, 2018.  On that day, Mrs. Synan celebrated not only her 100th birthday on earth, but her first birthday in heaven.  I know that Mrs. McCormack remains reassured by the continued prayers of the
STM community.

Last Wednesday, Dr. Angela Moran, a materials engineer who teaches at the U. S. Naval Academy, gave a presentation to the STM middle school students about careers in science, technology, engineering, and math. This interactive seminar kept the students engaged while fulfilling STM's continuous goal to increase student interest and awareness in STEM.  STM was one of fifty schools nationwide selected to be visited by a scientist in anticipation of the USA Science & Engineering Festival Expo being held on April 7th and 8th.  Click here to view the video prepared by WDVM and click here to read the article published by the Catholic Herald. We are proud of the students and how well they presented themselves.  Thank you to both the parents and the teachers who have devoted time over the years to help prepare these young men and women.

Due to last Friday's school closing, interims were distributed this week to students in 1st to 8th grade.  Please check your child's backpack to review, sign, and return the interim to school.

Important calendar update:
For your planning purposes, STM School has now used two scheduled snow days.  At this timethe anticipated last day of school will be Thursday, June 14.

God Bless,

Nelda D. Thomas, M.Ed.
Assistant Principal

MEATLESS LENTEN SUPPERS!!

Each Friday during Lent, the Women's Council serves a delicious meatless meal in Burke Hall from 5:30-7:30pm.  This is an excellent opportunity to have dinner with friends and family. Dinners finish in plenty of time for all of us to attend the Stations of the Cross at 7:30pm in the Cathedral.  This Friday we are serving veggie chili and cornbread. Suppers will continue each Friday in Lent until Friday, March 23, 2018. The food is provided by the Women's Council.  Dinners are free - however, donations are accepted!
INVITE OUR LADY OF FATIMA FOR A VISIT

Is your child preparing to receive a Sacrament this year? Consider inviting the "Pilgrim Virgin" to your home for a week to seek her intercession for your child and your family. Two Legion of Mary members will visit and pray the Rosary and other prayers with you and your family when they bring the "Pilgrim Virgin" to your home.  They will also recite prayers with you and your family on her departure. The "Pilgrim Virgin" statue is 27 inches in height.  If interested, please contact Mr. and Mrs. Finney
(703- 521-3567) or the Rectory (703-525-1300). The Legion of Mary provides this service as part of its mission. No donations are requested.
