New Enterprise Park at Stennis Space Center
John C. Stennis Space Center is National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) largest rocket engine testing facility and is landlord to nearly 14,000 acres of land. NASA's Business Development Team created Enterprise Park, an 1,100-acre section of developable land with 400 acres certified by Mississippi Power Company as 'Project Ready'. NASA retained The University of Southern Mississippi's Trent Lott National Center to conduct a highest-and-best-use study so to attract new businesses to Enterprise Park. Within the scope of the project, the four priority areas of focus are shared services, unmanned systems, aerospace, and university/federal research.

Unmanned Maritime Systems Training Programs in Mississippi

Researchers for the Trent Lott National Center for Economic Development and Entrepreneurship were tasked to prepare an overview report of unmanned maritime systems academic programs in Mississippi. The report also noted unmanned aerial systems programs in the state. The information in the report identified existing academic programs offered to Mississippi students to determine opportunities and gaps in academic programs for community college transfers to transition into USM academic programs.
Three community colleges that offer useful information were identified: Hinds Community College's Unmanned Aerial Systems, Pearl River Community College's newly formed Unmanned Aerial Systems, and Copiah-Lincoln Community College robotics team (emphasis in underwater systems). The purpose of observing these community college programs is to create greater alignment between the community college programs and USM's
Unmanned Maritime Systems Certificate Program. The results and recommendations from the report will be used to create a smooth transition from community college to USM and will integrate the programs of study and increase the likelihood for students graduating within four years of study and entering the unmanned maritime systems industry.
