A MESSAGE ABOUT OUR MISSION

As a growing organization, we're often focused on what lies ahead, but it's also important to pause and reflect on recent accomplishments. 

One of the things we tackled over the winter was to rework our mission statement.  

Mission statements are important for a couple of reasons:  (1) they describe what you do, and (2) they serve as filters to help guide decision-making and future direction.  It had been many years since the last mission statement was created and the organization has continued to grow, mature, and evolve since its inception.  The time had come to insure we have a mission statement that accurately states our purpose and why we exist.

For those of you who have had experience creating a mission statement, you know the work involved.  It is a fun and challenging exercise with the goal of developing an inspiring statement that summarizes what an organization does, preferably in 14 words or less.  Our process involved pulling together a small task force to solicit input from the community about the important parts of what we do, and then to piece together the words and phrases which we felt best exemplified the day-to-day activity at 317.  I am pleased to share with you our new mission statement:

317 Main's mission is to encourage creative expression, personal growth, and community connection through music. 

We hope that you share our enthusiasm for the clear statement of purpose for this wonderful community-supported organization.  As always, thanks for all you do to help make this place a treasured community resource.
