Dear Jones Parents,
It's hard to believe the school year is almost halfway over. Semester exams begin in little more than a week, and our students and teachers have worked very hard to be prepare. Below in this newsletter is a copy of the three-day special schedule (January 30-February 1).
Please note that the school day starts at the usual 8:00 am, but students are dismissed at 2:20 pm each of the exam days.
Please urge your students to be well-prepared and take advantage of Ac Lab on Monday, as well as special teacher office hours on Tuesday and Wednesday.
There will be no school on Friday, February 2, a day reserved for staff development.

We are looking for parents to volunteer in the Library
on Thursday afternoons from 3:15-4:30 pm.
Students use the Library to study, access computers,
and print out homework.
No experience necessary!

staff and our neighbors at drop off time...

Do not park or block in driveway entrance to Jones underground parking.
You are preventing staff from entering the garage.

Refrain from making u-turns in the middle of Polk Street.

Please pull as far west on Polk at drop off or pick up.
*Drop students off when you can
reach the side off the street not in traffic.

Girls Basketball
|
The girls basketball team has a record of 15-6
This includes a spectacular OT win against Marshall!
The Eagles are preparing for their
5th straight appearance
in the CPS playoffs.
Senior guard Alyssa Streeter has had a standout season and is close to setting the school season and career scoring record.
The Eagles will host a first round game on
Tuesday Feb 23 at 5 pm.
Come watch our Eagles soar!!!

This week the
Boys Swim Team defeated Von Steuben!
They move to 3-1 vs. CPS opponents and have set new
Jones-Payton records in every event.
Saturday we competed at the Highland Park invitational and set four more new school records!
Sophomore Jaden Olson broke the pool record with a time of 51.87 in the backstroke. This time is currently the fourth fastest in the state! Jaden also scored second out of 125 swimmers at the meet in NISCA power points.
The Jones-Payton boys return to action on Thursday 1/26 at 5:00 against U High at Jones Natatorium

Dance Team Going Strong
|
|
The JCP Dance Team has had a great season so far!
The full team has performed during halftime at several boys and girls basketball games.
The competitive team has attended invitationals throughout Chicagoland this season.
Their hip-hop routine recently placed
2nd in the CPS City Championship!
The team looks forward to their Sectional tournament this Saturday at Mundelein High School.
If the team places in the top 6 at sectionals
they will advance to the state competition!

The team includes: Captain Jackie Escutia (Jr.), Co-captain Shannon Cichanski (Jr.), Greta Tetlak (Jr.), Mariana Ventura (Jr.), Renee Wise (Sr.), Devin Barry (Jr.),
and Nish Ojamkachornkiat (Jr.).
The team is being coached this year by Babe Paukstys along with her daughter, Lily Paukstys (Jones Class of 2017).

Calling All Artists!!
2018 Doodle 4 Google contest invites K-12 students to create an uplifting doodle that tells the world
"What inspires me."
Artists can utilize any materials to bring their creation to life. Like all Google Doodles, each must incorporate the letters G-o-o-g-l-e. One national winner will receive a $30,000 college scholarship, a $50,000 technology package for their school/non-profit organization, and a behind-the-scenes experience with the Doodle team to transform their Doodle into an interactive experience on Google.com.
Contest entries are due by March 2nd, 2018!
