There are several steps one has to take to begin a small business in Arkansas, especially if their goal is to do government contracting. The Arkansas Procurement Assistance Center works with several other local organizations (most are are at minimal or no cost) that all could potentially have a hand in helping an Arkansas small business, all the way from the beginning steps of starting a business to winning their first government contract.

The federal government purchases $436 billion per year, with 23% of all projects set aside for small businesses, 5% for women owned businesses, 5% for small disadvantaged businesses (SDB and 8(a)), and not less than 3% to service disabled veteran owned small business and certified HUBZone small business.

Have you considered the public sector as an avenue for growing your business? Many Arkansas businesses could compete for government contracts.
