February is the month in which Gordie was born. He would have turned 32 on February 22nd had his life not ended tragically due to hazing and alcohol overdose when he was just 18. Who would Gordie have been today? His family and friends cherish the time they shared with him--and we all benefit from them sharing his story with us. On February 22nd, take some time to remember Gordie and commit to looking out for those around you. We can all celebrate his birthday by taking his lifesaving message to heart. Happy 32nd birthday, Gordie!

Last year on Gordie's birthday, we launched Gordie Kindness Cards to encourage random acts of kindness that spread Gordie's story and help #RememberGordie (you can print your own cards here!). Read on for how the Gordie Center is going to honor Gordie's birthday in 2018!
Gordie Center Updates
HAZE Film Re-Release
The Gordie Center documentary film HAZE, chronicling Gordie's story, debuted in 2008. Since its release, the film has been seen by over 1 million high school and college students nationwide. Working with the film's original director, Pete Schuermann, we have spent the past year updating the film with a renewed focus on hazing. We are proud to release the new edit of HAZE along with a new facilitator guide on Gordie's birthday, February 22, 2018. Stay tuned to our website for more information about the release as the date gets closer!
UC Riverside APPLE Team
2018 APPLE Training Institutes
The Gordie Center just finished hosting our 2018 APPLE Training Institutes in January. APPLE is the leading national training institute dedicated to substance abuse prevention and health promotion for student-athletes and athletics department administrators. Prevention teams comprised of student-athletes and administrators from 74 NCAA-member schools participated in either the Charlottesville, VA, or San Diego, CA, APPLE Training Institute.

Thank you for supporting our mission and helping to spread Gordie's story. Together, we can work to prevent hazing and alcohol overdose, as well as strengthen recovery efforts nationwide. Don't forget to celebrate Gordie's birthday on February 22nd by committing to be an active bystander, and sharing Gordie's story!

Until next month,
