Marymount University's Ballston Center Open for Business

By now you have probably noticed the beautiful addition to the Ballston neighborhood at 1000 N. Glebe Road. Marymount University's Ballston C en ter officially  opened its doors at the start of the 2017 fall semester. Though this building focuses on providing the highest-quality educational experience for students, Ballston Center offers state-of-the-art accommodations for everyone in Ballston.

Ballston Center is a testament to sustainable engineering . The  LEE D
Gold certified building's  energy efficient features include: highly insulated  terra cotta tile facade, high performance glass, a green roof that aids in solar reflectance to  reduce the  urban heat islan d effect , and underground parking. The design has already receiv ed multiple  awards, including a 2017 DESIGNArlington Award.

This is a multi-use facility, with the first six floors housing Marymount's  School of Business Administration, along with graduate programs in the Counseling Department and the Forensic & Legal Psychology Department. Th
e academic tower includes classrooms, seminar/training rooms, specialized labs, administrative offices, library, auditorium, chapel, art gallery and cafĂ©. Floors seven and eight of the academic tower are available for leasing to office tenants with 18,000 square feet of office space per floor available for build out.

Benefits of Ballston Center are not limited to students. The community is invited to view the art gallery featuring contemporary work, as well as the Reinsch Pierce Family Courtyard and the plaza  where students, Ballston employees and residents can relax and enjoy coffee from the on-site Starbucks.

With this dev elopment, Ma rymount ha s significantly expanded its hosting capacity with its dynamic  confe rence and event space .The flagship meeting space is the stunning 208 seat step-floor auditorium with its handsome native Virginia "fumed" oak stage. The technology-rich auditorium features an advanced audio system (with built-in listening assistance), video cameras, high definition projector and a confidence monitor.

As this is an academic building, learning and interaction are the main goals of the design. The student-centered, state-of-the-art experiential design  features bold colors and abundant natural light. Stairwell landings include "circulation sp aces" that create intimate hubs where students can continue classroom conversations, take a break, or simply enjoy the spectacular floor to ceiling views.

Marymount's new building also offers specialized tools and sp aces  designed to provide real-world, hands-on learning for  all departments housed in Ballston Center. Ballston's Cyber security Lab, with a network  of virtualized machines and Cisco corporate level security devices, is an interactive, han ds- on center for IT and Cybersecurity students to explore data science technology, networking, computer forensics, and cybersecurity issues.

Students have access to a business lab equipped with a news-feed ticker and dual screen monitors that mirrors the function of a trading room environm ent. The graduate program for Clinical Mental Health Counseling  now has sophisticated labs, one of which is dedicated to psychological assessment. Four of the labs are adjacent to each other in one corner nook of the floor - set up like a counseling center.

Additionally, Marymount is the first Washington, D.C.-area university to offer a master's in Forensic & Legal Psychology. A new forensic research room at Ballston enhances student/faculty collaboration. Students capitalize on the school's alliances for internships with agencies such as the FBI, ATF, Department of Justice, and National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

With its innovation and availability, MU's Ballston Center is now a premiere resource for the Ballston community.
