, February 13-15 in Tulare, California. The world's largest annual agricultural exposition, World Ag Expo is a great place to meet up with colleagues and partners and see what’s new.
UC Agriculture and Natural Resources
will be at World Ag Expo, and we hope you’ll stop by our tent (
Space 37 on I Street, just west of Pavilion A)
and visit us. We’ll be demonstrating the work our researchers and extension specialists are doing in three broad areas:

In other news, several media reports have appeared recently on the topic
of the Huron Consulting Group’s review of UCOP’s organizational structure. At least one of those news outlets – the
Los Angeles Times
– points out Huron recommendations that would impact UC ANR if enacted. According to the
Times
story,
“UC Press, the system's academic publisher, could move to UCLA, the Study Abroad program to UC Santa Barbara and the Agricultural and Natural Resources division to UC Davis, the review suggested.”
I would like all of UC ANR’s colleagues, partners and friends to know that the Huron Consulting Group’s recommendations are just that: recommendations. President Napolitano is working closely with UCOP leaders, including myself, on analyzing Huron’s report and formulating recommendations that she will decide to move forward. It remains to be seen how exactly this restructuring will impact UC ANR; however, early discussions have been very positive.
We all know that
UC ANR
is a unique part of the university, because we are located in every county of the state and bring the resources of UC directly to local communities. For more than 100 years, UC ANR has conducted research and education programs to improve agricultural practices, enhance natural resources conservation, extend nutrition science, advance the economy and promote youth development. Our advisors and specialists work with the entire UC system, and a wide array of external partners, to solve local and statewide problems with science-based solutions.
Rest assured that I will remain closely engaged in the process, providing the president my thoughts on the optimal way to position UC ANR to most effectively serve California in the future. We have had several meetings already, and I am quite optimistic that this process will serve our UC ANR mission well. We will provide more information as it becomes available.

Rice Technical Working Group Conference

The Rice Technical Working Group meets at least biennially to provide for continuous exchange of information, cooperative planning and periodic review of all phases of rice research and extension being carried on by the states, federal government and cooperating agencies. It develops proposals for future work, which are suggested to the participating agencies for implementation.

, consequences of food and agricultural policy, and rural resources and the environment, among others. The issues are often global, but AIC emphasizes implications for agriculture and natural resources in California.
