Last season was wildly successful. If it is God's will, this coming season will be equally so. So what has been accomplished late fall 2017 in preparation for next season?

Approximately 12 trees were cut down. Many trunks are stored behind shed for later use along the trails. The trees were cut down to allow for greater sun exposure to the savanna area, to remove the weedy Siberian Elms, and to install a large fire pit in the central flat area near the front of the woods.   This beautiful area will provide a panoramic view of the entire woods. 

A wild invasive cedar tree was removed from Savanna area also.  It's 12' high trunk remains and will be fitted with a cross piece to create a cross.  A solar spotlight will be installed to illuminate the cross at night.  

In parts of the woodland and savanna area, there are 4 areas seeded with selective native grasses, appropriate for each area. These 100-150 sq foot areas will be managed for weed control this coming season. All other areas will be treated with Preen (a weed preventer) and top dressed with approximately 1-1 ½" of hardwood mulch to maintain soil moisture and to also help with weed control.

Also, in one 600 sq ft shade to part sun area, located in central woods, we will be planting additional 3" plant plugs. These will consist of the following native plantings:

With additional voluntary donations and with help from energetic volunteers, we will be able to plant more trees this coming Spring.  A special thanks to the TLO School for third quarter chapel offerings being designated for the TLO Forest.  A special thanks also for the $250 provided from excess TLO funds.  Additionally we are hopeful to receive additional future Thrivent Financial action grants.  These additional funds will make it possible to continue our work with making the forest a beautiful and serene place to gather, learn and meditate.
