JANUARY 2018

Happy New Year from all of us at Shumla!

Note from the Director

You did it again, friends! Your generous donations made it possible for us to match $110,000 in 2017!

There is no way for us to fully express our gratitude to you. The best way we know how is to dive into the work that you are supporting and do you proud. The Shumla team and I are excited to see what discoveries 2018 holds in store and anxious to share them with you.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,
Jessica and  all of us at Shumla

The Achievement of a Lifetime...
and it's Not Over Yet!

Carolyn holds her award flanked on her right side by her husband Phil Dering and on her left by Shumla Board Member and former Curtis D. Tunnell award winner, Elton Prewitt.

On January 11, Shumla Founder Carolyn Boyd, was honored by the Texas Historical Commission for her tireless efforts in the preservation of Texas' heritage.  Carolyn was awarded the Curtis D. Tunnell Lifetime Achievement Award in Archeology.

Carolyn accepts her award from  Chairman John L. Nau, III (image left) and THC Executive Director Mark Wolf (image right).

We can think of no one more deserving and could not be prouder of the legacy Carolyn has created and continues to build upon - her work is far from complete. She sets an incredible example of scientific excellence, joyful diligence and dogged perseverance for not only the Shumla team but for all Texas archaeologists.

Join us in congratulating the one and only Carolyn Boyd on this great honor!

Congratulations to all awardees!

Shumla is Entering the Blogosphere

Don't worry. It's not that far out...
It's just a way for us to communicate with you more!

We started the blog to share more information about our ongoing research with you -- our friends, colleagues, and collaborators around the world. The blog will not only feature our ongoing work as part of the Alexandria Project, but also give insights into some of the broader research questions Shumla is exploring.

The first blog post provides an introduction to the Alexandria Project and explains some of the methodologies we're using to document and preserve Lower Pecos rock art. Check it out today! https://shumla.org/shumla-blog/

Look for new blog posts on the 1st and 15th of each month. You can comment and ask questions on the blog platform too. Our archaeologists will respond to you whenever they're not in the field.

Don't be scared, join us in the blogosphere today!

Your eyes do not deceive you! We are on the  cover  of the current issue of American Archaeology Magazine! Check out the article and subscribe here!
