In January we traveled to California for a much needed vacation and to see our granddaughter, Taylor, and we were able to watch her play in two basketball games for Hancock College in Santa Maria. We stayed at the Wyndham Worldmark Resort in Solvang. You might remember from last year how much we liked Solvang and wanted to return for a longer visit. We had a wonderful time and I wanted to share some of the highlights with you . . .
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the
Dascomb Cellars tasting room in downtown Solvang. Great wines and terrific service. Brought a couple bottles home and one day soon we will revisit that fun evening from our own home.
We tasted many incredible balsamic vinegars and olive oils at the
Solvang Olive Press, and purchased some of both. Most impressive to me was the balsamic vinegar reduction, aged for 12 years. Although I am not a huge fan of balsamic, this one was off the charts in flavor and quality.
Renaissance Antiques was so very interesting. Cindy Ramos showed us some fabulous music boxes and clocks, sharing her wealth of knowledge about both. We learned so much, and took away a new understanding and deep appreciation for the music boxes especially. What a treat that visit was!
Our big takeaway from the trip was purchasing this wine table and wall rack from
Eco - Wine Furniture. We knew we had a perfect spot for this in our kitchen/dining room, but when we went back to buy it from their showroom in Solvang, they were closed. Their factory is in Santa Maria, so we were able to visit it when we went to watch Taylor play in one of her games. That was so fun, and we really enjoyed talking with Pedro Meza, the owner. They have many VERY cool products made from used wine barrels. You should check out their website to see all the products that they offer.

The weather was very cold while we were gone, but we seem to have brought the warm weather of California back with us. I recently took our grandkids, Reece (11) and Teeg (3), to the park in Durango. Any of you who have grandkids can testify that the love you have for them is beyond description.
We are seriously low on moisture in our area, but are hoping for above normal precipitation for February and March, typically heavy moisture months. Allan is concerned, of course, but we are praying for a very wet spring so that the fields will green up early and there will be plenty of irrigation water this summer.
Love on your cherished ones this Valentine's Day. God bless you all, and thank you for blessing us with your continued orders and well wishes.
