Member Spotlight


Congratulations to ANAC member Scott Moore, PhD, MS, ARN, AGPCNP-BC, Post Doctorate Fellow, Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing, Case Western Reserve University. He was the 2017 recipient of the ANAC/American Nurses Foundation grant award. His proposal,  was awarded funding in November.

New York Times article and statement
A letter to the editor by ANAC Board President Jeff Kwong and ANAC Executive Director Carole Treston r egarding the value of science and the purported CDC word ban was published in the New York Times on December 22. 

AIDSWatch
AIDSWatch (March 26-27 in Washington, DC) is the nation's largest annual national HIV/AIDS advocacy event. AIDSWatch brings together hundreds of people living with HIV, their providers and their allies to educate Congress about the important issues at stake for people living with HIV/AIDS in the United States.  Register here.

AIDS 2018 Nursing Pre-conference
ANAC has been awarded the opportunity to host a nursing pre-conference July 22 at the International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2018) in Amsterdam. We are convening a planning committee of ANAC members and nursing partners who will be attending AIDS 2018. If you are attending and would like to get involved, contact Carole Treston.

Consortium of Universities for Global Health Conference
ANAC is a participant in the annual Consortium of Universities for Global Health Conference, Health Disparities: A Time for Action. It will be  hosted by Columbia University and Stellenbosch University on March 15-18 in New York City. Included is a pre-conference session on nursing in Africa. More information and registration.

Save the date: All of Us Research Program webinar -- Thursday, February 15, 1 p.m.
ANAC will host a webinar on the NIH sponsored All of Us Research Program, a cornerstone of the larger Precision Medicine Initiative. Dara Richardson-Heron, MD, chief engagement officer for the All of Us Research Program, and a provider panel will provide perspective on its importance to racial and ethnic minorities and LGBT individuals.

HIV/AIDS Nursing Certification Board (HANCB) updated exam
Become board certified and be recognized for your expertise in caring for people living with HIV. The updated ACRN exam will be implemented in early February for initial and recertification exams along with an updated ACRN practice test.  For more information visit HANCB.org or contact Patrick Kenny, ACRN, HANCB President

NURSE Corps Loan Repayment Program
The program offers registered nurses and advanced practice registered nurses substantial financial assistance in exchange for full-time service at a Critical Shortage Facility or an eligible school of nursing. Applications are accepted through March 8.  More information and to apply.

Medical and Nursing Education Partnership Initiatives (MEPI and NEPI) sponsored by Fogarty International Center. The initiative uses an R25 educational development mechanism and research experiences as a required component of the larger curriculum development. More information

Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study (MACS) and Women's Interagency Health Study (WIHS)
Due to NINR participation, nurse scientists may request prospective data and specimen collection from active field sites with permission of the oversite committee.

It is with deep sadness that ANAC shares with you the passing of Michael (Mac) Coker in December. He was on the board of his local Atlanta Chapter, served on the ANAC Conference committee and chaired the national HIV+ nurses committee for many years. We mourn his passing and salute his life.
