The GREAT BIG SHOW is an original live musical comedy extravaganza that will upend your assumptions about what it means to be "developmentally disabled"
On February 23, 2017 Victoria based Delusional Productions began auditioning and assembling a collaborative theatre troupe of adult artists with developmental disabilities. Together they began a year long project, to write, compose, rehearse and perform a new original musical comedy variety show unlike anything anyone has ever seen. The result of this project is "The GREAT BIG SHOW" which will have its world premiere at the McPherson Theatre in Victoria, BC., Feb 7-10, 2018.
A cast of 25 adult artists with developmental disabilities accompanied by a 7 piece rock band will take you on a hilarious and inclusive musical journey that simply could not have been created by anyone else. The writing is brilliantly unique. The enthusiasm and joy that these artists bring to each performance might just make you fall back in love with humanity.

Mel, Shannon, Katie and Jenn enjoyed a 7-day all-inclusive vacation in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. They had a blast swimming in the pool daily. They stuffed themselves with wonderful food and drinks; Pina Colada's were the favourite! They danced to a mariachi band and ate fresh made tacos.
They will definitely be returning one day!

Barb came to the office in January to help with some administrative duties and enjoyed a birthday surprise. She loved the new mug she received, enjoyed her cupcakes, and showed off some new dance moves!

Disability Alliance BC Community Alert
Videos for People with Disabilities Who Are Victims of Crime
Disability Alliance BC (DABC) has created a series of short videos on a number of topics on the criminal justice system - how it works and what to expect - in a reader-friendly format for people with low-literacy, and in sign language with captioning for people who are Deaf. These videos will help people with disabilities to increase their understanding of the procedures and processes they will go through if they have been a victim of a crime. The videos are also intended to help the victim support worker to communicate important information to the victim/survivor in a more effective way and to support them better throughout the process.

Amelia House News
January 26th was all about Kim. Kim celebrated her 26th birthday with her Mom, Grandma and several friends. It was a lot of fun had by all...and good food too!
Amelia house is also very happy to have Olga back at the home. Olga has been away for the past few months and she was greatly missed. Welcome back Olga.
We are all eagerly awaiting spring...but have a feeling winter is NOT done with us quite yet.

The Community Resource Team (CRT) provides community based behaviour support, counselling, and psychiatric assessment and consultation for adults with developmental disabilities to support their mental health and improve quality of life. We serve Greater Victoria and the geographical area south of the Malahat. The CRT works with Individuals, their families, support workers, community-based teams, medical professionals, and family doctors to provide person-centred and solution-focused support. The CRT is funded through Community Living British Columbia (CLBC); services are voluntary and there are no extra fees for the persons served.
Recently, Kardel has worked with a software company to develop a secure website portal for all CRT referrals; this eliminates the use of fax referrals or hard copy referrals. We have piloted this process over a number of months and this is now ready to be implemented. Matt loves music! He is passionate about live music and is tracking his goal to attend at least four concerts or musical events this year.
Greg has some
new visual goal tracking art; he tracks his steps and every time he walks 5km he adds a new paw print to the map. His goal is to walk the 97.7kms it would take to get to the River Rock Casino to see Air Supply in April of 2018
Kylie and Matt went with Jackie and Aiden to The New Years Party at the Mary Winspear where the Timebenders were playing. They both loved it so much they stayed till the bitter end, getting home at 0100am. Such a hit they are going again next year!
Kylie has been busy raising funds for her next Disney cruise and starting February 1st her artwork will be on display at the Spiral Café, 418 Craigflower Road. Make sure to stop in and have a look the next time you're grabbing a coffee!

CLBC Aging Resources
With a growing population of aging individuals with development disabilities, CLBC has developed new resources, including a new website, to support individuals and caregivers.
The new website,
www.AwareShareCare.ca, provides helpful tips and resources to assist in better planning for aging, including:
- A list of questions to ask your doctor and things to anticipate or think about before a doctor's appointment.
- A link to the Canadian consensus guidelines for caring for people with diverse abilities.
- Tips for self-advocates including how to communicate with your doctor and work together to plan for healthy aging.
- Tips for health professionals on how to make a doctor's office fully accessible, how to best work with patients with diverse abilities and how to maintain an ongoing healthy aging program.
In addition to the website, CLBC has created additional resources aimed to empower and help bring positive changes to the health and care of aging adults with developmental disabilities.

Self-Advocates Photo Contest
The Self-Advocate Net has organized a photo contest for self-advocates.
All you have to do is shoot some photos and submit them from your iPhone, smart phone, iPad or tablet. It's best to shoot horizontal shots. You can upload an exiting photo or shoot and send a new photo.
