Viking Co-Ed Cheer heads to IHSA State!

H-F's
Co-Ed Cheer Team finished in 2nd Place at last week's IHSA Sectional event, held at Andrew H.S., which qualified the team for the IHSA State Championship! The team will compete this Friday at approximately 4 p.m. at Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington, then may also compete Saturday afternoon, pending placement. Performances at State will be streamed live
at this website.

Careers in STEAM Night: Feb. 6

Area students and parents are invited to H-F's 7th Annual Careers in STEAM Night, where guests can find out from current professionals what it takes to launch a successful career in science, technology, engineering, arts or mathematics.
The event will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 6, from 6-8:30 p.m. The evening will begin with an H-F STEAM Club Showcase, followed by an introduction to various STEAM careers in the school's South Building Room E1. Scheduled speakers - including some H-F alumni - are:
After the professionals introduce themselves and their career paths, participants will have the opportunity to learn more about the career that interests them most during a 40-min. breakout session. The evening will conclude with a half-hour question-and-answer session with all of the presenters. Please join us!

Perry Hoag (viola) were chosen based on a rigorous audition procedure of etudes, musical excerpts, scales, triads, sight-reading, video and music submissions. More than 12,000 students throughout Illinois participated in the audition process for All-State. In addition to Allie & Perry, the
Viking Jazz Ensemble also represented H-F with a special performance on Friday. The group was one of only four Jazz bands invited to perform at the conference. Participating members were:

H-F Chess Team: State-bound!
The H-F Chess Team went undefeated and were co-champions at the IHSA Sectional tournament, hosted by Sandburg High School on Saturday, Jan. 27. In an impressive display of total teamwork and chess dominance, the H-F chessmen won 30 games with only one loss and one draw. The team members are: juniors

Henry Thiros; sophomore
Eric Piros; and freshmen
Malcolm Smith & Marquel Flanagan. Coached by
Mr. Bonges, the team now advances to IHSA State on Feb. 9-10 in Peoria.

Special Olympics Basketball: State-bound!
Congratulations to the Special Olympics Red & White team for qualifying for State! They won the Region E state qualifier on Sunday, Jan. 21, in dramatic fashion at Thornwood H.S. The Vikings beat a strong team from Rich Township H. S. in overtime: 20 to 16. The Red & White team is coached by
Ms. Rice and assisted by
Ms. Mucha,
Ms. Chasey and
Mrs. Nieckula. Next, the team will be competing for a state championship title at
Illinois State University and
Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington/Normal March 16-17. The team is a coed team; members are:
