 The San Francisco based
Del Sol String Quartet, two-time winner of the top Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming, will perform in the Main Library's Rotunda on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 7:30 p.m.
Founded in 1992, the Quartet's collaborative performance projects and chamber music programs explore narratives and cultures from around the world, reflecting the stories and sounds of the Pacific Rim.

"Permission to Pause" Relaxation Series

The Library is repeating
"Permiss
ion to Pause",
a relaxation series with
Catherine Collins, RN, MS. Join us for a lunchtime session to pause in the middle of a busy day to learn some simple techniques to cultivate mindfulness. This drop-in series will run on Tuesdays from February 6 through April 3 at 12:00 p.m. in the Main Library's Transcendental Alcove.
The 30-minute sessions will cover the following:
- February 6: Breathing techniques to incorporate relaxation and a sense of ease during a busy day.
- February 13: Practice techniques learned in the previous session
- February 20: Body scan and guided imagery to access a quiet place in one's mind and body.

"No Picture Could Be More Lovely": Ada Shepard with the Hawthornes in Florence, 1858
|
 The forthcoming exhibition features the sketchbooks and letters of Ada Shepard, a well-educated, perceptive young woman who served as governess to the children of Nathaniel and Sophia Hawthorne while they were in Europe between 1857 and 1859, with the focus on the family's sojourn in Florence in 1858. Ada's letters, in particular, provide a window into a young American woman's experiences in mid-19th century Europe.
Join us for the grand opening on April 6, 2018 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the Main Library rotunda. A lecture by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Megan Marshall, biographer of The Peabody sisters, Margaret Fuller, and Elizabeth Bishop, will be followed by elegant refreshments and an opportunity to view the exhibition.
