Heroes of the Week

Jené Streeter

Congratulations to this week's Heroes Kristin Knecht and Jené Streeter! We hope you enjoy your up-close parking spot.

A Note to Kristin Knecht, 5th GradeTeacher:
"You have been such an inspiration to me this year. You are passionate and innovative, always looking for new ways to serve and love on your students. You consistently go out of your way to teach me, guide me, and help me be a better teacher. I am so thankful that God brought us together and I am so grateful for you!"

A Note to Jené Streeter, Math Teacher:
"Jen é Streeter is my hero. She is so dedicated to her job and students, offering countless hours outside of class to tutor them and help them be successful. She encourages them to have a growth mindset, to see their value beyond a letter grade. I admire her bravery. She left a grade that she was so comfortable and experienced teaching for the 7th grade where she started over again. The way she challenges herself encourages me to do the same. She is incredibly wise and God has given her an extra dose of discernment. I value her, her friendship, and don't even mind her ridiculous mathy t-shirts. We're blessed to have Jen é on our middle school team."

Change for Early Morning Drop-Off Procedures
As we continue to update our safe campus initiatives, we would like to make you aware of a change we are implementing for early morning drop-off procedures. The drive-in gate will no longer be available for early drop-offs. Any students arriving on campus between 7:00am and 7:30am will need to be dropped off at the walk-in gate at the front of the school, and any students arriving prior to 7:00am will need to make arrangements with their teacher.

We appreciate your support and understanding as we make this change in an effort to better support our early-arrival students and keep our campus secure. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Katie Niles (714.437.1700x246) or  Keven Kroehler (x250)

MIA Students Selected to Participate w/Disney Performing Arts & Youth Educational Series Workshops
Mariners Institute of the Arts has exciting news to share with you! We are thrilled to announce that yesterday, January 11th, 2018, Mariners Institute of the Arts students were selected to participate with Disney Performing Arts and Disney Youth Educational Series workshops at the Disneyland Resort! This was an incredible opportunity for our students to be able to work with Disneyland Performing Arts and Youth Education professionals! Our students represented Mariners Christian School and Mariners Institute of the Arts very well! MSC students in Band, Orchestra, Art and Cinematic Arts attended these workshops.

Band and Orchestra were in a combined 90-minute workshop called "Soundtrack Session" Instrumental Workshop at the Disney Performing Arts Studio in which students participated under the guidance of a professional musician. Students were able to fine tune technique and reinforce performance concepts in a fun, hands-on session.

Art and Cinematic Arts students were combined in a 3-hour workshop called "Designing a Disney Story." Students learned about the complex components that work together to bring favorite Disney characters and stories to the big screen. In this 3-hour program, students studied Disney's role in the history and processes used to create early-animated features, as well as the innovative animation techniques used to bring the visions of modern storytellers to life. Students explored their own storytelling skills by planning and designing a storyboard and creating a kineograph and zoetrope.

Look for a video of the day forthcoming.

Middle School Chapel
In Middle School Chapel this week, we not only celebrated some amazing things God did globally in 2017, but we looked forward to ways He is delivering on His promises in 2018! In a two-fold chapel this week, Mr. Moore shared with the middle school students about his recent trip to China and the opportunities coming to MCS at the end of this month, as a direct result of that trip. The students were excited to see his photos and hear details of his time in China, but were most excited to hear about the 34 students who will live with our MCS families and join us in middle school life on our campus for 4 days! Please join us as we pray that God would use that time to further His Kingdom, and that their time at MCS would have a life-long impact on each Chinese student who steps on our campus.

The second half of Chapel was led by students Reagan O'Bryan, Sheya Lavin, and Jimmy Lavin who recently visited our friends in Gulu on a missions trip! They shared with us what life in Gulu is like and how the students and families at Christ The Center Ministries welcomed them with the love and joy of Christ! It was great to hear how God is continuing to work mightily at CTCM, and how the students and families there continue to pray over us and hold us dear to their hearts, just as we do them!
