Almighty God, by the hand of Moses your servant you led your people out of slavery, and made them free at last: Grant that your Church, following the example of your prophet Martin Luther King, may resist oppression in the name of your love, and may secure for all your children the blessed liberty of the Gospel of Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
Amen.
Collect for the Human Family
O God, you made us in your own image and redeemed us through Jesus your Son: Look with compassion on the whole human family; take away the arrogance and hatred which infect our hearts; break down the walls that separate us; unite us in bonds of love; and work through our struggle and confusion to accomplish you purposes on earth; that, in your good time, all nations and races may sever you in harmony around your heavenly throne; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
God, our Creator, we are held in your everlasting arms,
Jesus, our Savior, we are healed by your wounded hands,
Holy Spirit, be present as we reach out to one another in love.

We must come to see that human progress never rolls in on wheels of inevitability.
It comes through the tireless efforts and persistent work of men willing to be co-workers with God, and without this hard work time itself becomes an ally of the forces of social stagnation.
We must use time creatively, and forever realize that the time is always ripe to do right.

The Nyack Record Shop Project, a joint effort by the Edward Hopper House,
local historical societies, churches, businesses, and community groups to collect oral histories documenting the African American experience in Nyack, launches on Monday with recordings at Grace Church immediately following the annual Interfaith service commemorating the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. (2pm) at Pilgrim Baptist Church (across the street from Grace at 80 N. Franklin)

NEWS FROM THE SENIOR YOUTH GROUP
The Senior Youth Group will be hosting its first fundraising breakfast of the New Year on Sunday, January 21. Stop in throughout the morning in Memorial Hall for a great hot breakfast and to support a good cause -- proceeds will help support this summer's mission trip to Nicaragua. Come Hungry!
Clothing donations are needed for the Senior Youth Group's upcoming trips (February 11 and March 17) with Midnight Run to New York City. If you've got items to donate, please contact

2018 ANNUAL PARISH MEETING - February 11
As the focus of the Annual meeting is on the entire parish-body and our life together, there will be
ONE
service on Sunday, February 11th at 10:00 am.
WHY WE MEET:
According to Canon Law of the Episcopal Church and the By-Laws of Grace Episcopal Church, the parish must hold an Annual Meeting to discuss the business of the church or state of the parish as well as to elect new persons to the Board of Vestry (see next segment). The Annual meeting provides the parish community a wonderful opportunity to gather in fellowship and talk and learn about the parish affairs, mission, vision, ministry, etc. It is also a time for members of the parish to ask questions; share their concerns, hopes, etc.; as such there will be a question and answer session on the agenda. Parishioners are encouraged to take this opportunity to ask questions about any of the topics discussed.
The meeting will consist of the Rector's address, a report from the Wardens, Treasurer, and other selected committees/ministries. These reports are designed to provide an informative overview of the previous year and should also touch on the future (i.e.
projects, ministries, challenges, etc.).
CHOOSING OUR LEADERSHIP, WHY YOU HELP APPOINT NEW MINISTERS (VOTE):
In accordance with Canon Law of the Episcopal Church and the By-Laws of Grace Episcopal Church, each year the parish is to choose members from within the congregation to serve on the Board of Vestry, which is the governing board of the church, charged with fiduciary and campus oversight, as well as supporting the Rector and mission of the parish.
A proposed slate of nominees is put forth by a nominating committee comprised of vestry members whose term is completed as well as elected lay leaders. Candidates can also be nominated from the floor. Nominations can be recommended via the committee until
January 14.

ANNUAL NOMINATIONS PROCESS UNDERWAY
The nominating committee is now receiving names of potential candidates for election to the following positions: three vestry persons, two delegates and two alternate delegates to the diocesan convention, and three persons to serve on the next nominating committee along with the retiring vestry persons. Nominating forms are available at the entry to the church.
Names will be received until January 14, 2018
, and elections take place at the annual meeting on February 11, 2018. If you have questions, please speak with Fr. Owen, Debbie McGuinness, or Pat Cose.

O Lord, we come this morning
Knee-bowed and body-bent
Before Thy throne of grace.
O Lord--this morning--
Bow our hearts beneath our knees,
And our knees in some lonesome valley.
We come this morning--
Like empty pitchers to a full fountain,
With no merits of our own.
O Lord--open up a window of heaven,
And lean out far over the battlements of glory,
And listen this morning.
Lord, have mercy on proud and dying sinners--
Sinners hanging over the mouth of hell,
