FCCGE Celebrates Open and Affirming Sunday
January 14th

First Congregational  achieved 
official  Open and Affirming  designation in July of 2009 as part of our  commitment  to minister to and support  people  of all sexual orientations, gender identities and gender expressions. Join us on Sunday, January 14th at 11:45 in the Chapel to gather with a panel of Glenbard LGBTQ students and hear about what we have been doing to support Glenbard Voices of Equity and  the progress they have made within the District 87  community.

Newcomers Information Session
 January 14, 11:45 am - 12:45 pm in the Parlor

For those interested in learning more about joining FCCGE and the United Church of Christ, there will be an informal gathering for newcomers.  The next Newcomers Sessions will be offered on April 8.  Available joining dates following this session are January 28 and April 22 (10:30 am).  C hildcare for all ages available in the nursery. For further information, contact  Rev. Women's  Retreat
Saturday, February 3rd, 2018

 Our annual Women's Retreat at  Eaglewood Resort in Itasca is happening Saturday, February 3rd (with option to stay overnight Feb. 2nd or Feb. 3rd or both!) Mark your calendars as this is special time for the women of all generations at FCCGE (and their friends) to spend meaningful and fun time together. More deets to follow!

Film Discussion Group
Tuesday, January 23rd, 6:30-9

This month our Film Discussion Group will view Alfred Hitchcock's thriller
Vertigo in our Starlight Cinema, on the second floor. This film is considered the greatest film of all time by many and has been kept audiences on the edge of their seats for decades. We'll view from 6:30-8:38, then briefly discuss. Please join us!

Gender Revolution , the  powerful 
documentary first aired in Feb. 2017, follows Katie Couric, as she  travels across the U.S. to talk with scientists, psychologists, activists, authors and families about the complex issue of gender. Please come view this eye-opening film with us. Contact Ida Hagman.
How Can I Make a Difference?
Sacred Conversations about Race
January 15th at 6 pm

As part of FCCGE's ongoing sacred conversation about race, we ask you to come to a screening of 13th ,  Ava DuVernay's documentary about the continuing criminalization of African-Americans and the accompanying boom in U.S. Prisons. The film will be shown at the church on January 15th,  Martin Luther King Day, at 6:00 pm. Discussion to follow. Contact Phil Andres.

VAM to Host Arts Reception
Open to Community
Thurs., Jan.  18th, 6-9 pm at FCCGE

Join us as we celebrate the current art showings here at First Congregational Church of Glen Ellyn January 18th from 6-9 pm. The reception is open to members of all faith communities. Come for refreshments and browse our 2 galleries featuring Christian, Muslim and Jewish artists along with artists from the FCCGE community. 
Arts in Residence
Through Feb.  24th

There are new works in the Artists in Residence Gallery (in the hallway adjacent to the Parlor; enter via the stairs down from the library, or take the elevator to the lower level). This new exhibit features photography, painting, fabric, and multimedia folk art by members of our own congregation - Deb Helledy, Haruo Kurokawa, Jan Rajeck, Ed Kolar, and Jeff Edwards. Be sure to stop by before February 24 to see this wonderful collection.

Onward House

Thank you to everyone that purchased gifts, wrapped, drove, and boxed for our Onward House Gift Appeal this year. We provided a happier  Christmas to 200 people, most of them children. A big shout out to Marge Kovatch, who has been organizing this effort for many years.
