Attendance Awards: Change in Policy
|
|
Cherry Creek Academy will no longer be giving out awards
for perfect attendance effective immediately.
With flu strains that are currently spreading, we all need to do our best to keep everyone healthy. It is important that students who are ill stay home and take proper time to recover. We want to minimize all situations where students come to school ill and spread germs.
While we highly encourage well students to attend school each day and be on time, we do not want sick students to feel that they must attend in order to achieve perfect attendance.
Thank you for your understanding of this change.
|
|
You must keep children home if their temperature is 100.3° or above without medication.
Please keep sick children home in order to preserve a healthy school environment and prevent the spread of illness.
|
|
Well done and congratulations to all of our CCA students that worked hard and received academic awards!

New Policy on Birthday Celebrations at CCA
|
|
Dear CCA Parents,
While many schools are phasing out birthday celebrations, we at CCA recognize that honoring students on their birthday is a tradition that our students greatly enjoy and one that we at CCA want to maintain.
However, in order to preserve students’ ability to participate in this privilege, we are making a few changes in order to minimize classroom disruptions and limit time away from the classroom.
Students may still bring treats for their class and/or grade level and the Leadership Team/front office, but they will no longer be allowed to distribute treats to other grades or classes.
Thank you for your support and understanding.

Dress Code: A Friendly Remider
|
|
- No costume headbands or hair accessories
- One pair of post earrings only
- Solid, uniform colored socks and tights
- Students must wear a belt if their pants have belt loops
It is Cherry Creek Academy’s philosophy that the learning environment is significantly influenced by student’s attire. The purpose of CCA’s uniform policy is to reinforce an academic atmosphere, minimize economic and competitive differences among students, reduce the distraction and cost of fashion, and reduce disruption and disciplinary problems.
|
|
|
"Smart Watches" are allowed at CCA. However, if they become a distraction to a student they will be confiscated and the student will lose this privilege.
If your student chooses to wear a smart watch at school, it must remain on "airplane mode" during school hours.
This feature prevents the watch from sending and receiving text messages and phone calls.

Amy Larson has lived in Colorado for the last 26 years. She is a Wyoming native whose first library experience was as a student shelving books in her high school library. Little did she know, it would lead to a career.
Overall, she brings 11 years of public library experience to her job, working in a variety of areas such as circulation, children's reference, and materials processing.
Her CCA library experience began when she volunteered as a parent in the school library, and that morphed into a permanent position.
She has a small antique business on the side, enjoys marathon shopping, writing, listening to music, long walks, and of course, she likes reading
too.
In addition, she loves being with her wonderful husband of 31 years and her two lovely daughters.
A little-known fact is that Mrs. Larson is an identical twin. So, was it really Mrs. Larson in the library last week, or was it her stand-in duplicate?
Hmm...

Aubrey Warner has been working with kids since the age of 17 when she acquired her first job at Thornton Elementary in the before and after school program.
After spending a year in Adams County she moved and began working in Douglas County where she spent 4 and a half wonderful years teaching their Kindergarten Enrichment programs.
Aubrey came to Cherry Creek Academy as the Site Director for their before and after school program Champions just before the summer of 2016.
Aubrey has had a love books since she was a very young child – noting Franz Kafka as her favorite author.
She is currently pursuing a degree in secondary education with a focus on literature.
In her spare time she enjoys baking, trying her hand at cooking and being with her dog Lucy.

CCA Cafeteria News: Mid Year Reminders
|
|
We Need You!
Volunteer in the Cafeteria
10:40 am - 1:00 pm
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD HAS A LUNCH EACH DAY.
CCA is not responsible for providing lunch for students.
|
|
Students
DO NOT
have access to a microwave;
however, we do have hot water for the students who bring their own “Cup Noodles.”
|
|
In the lunchroom there is 2% white and 2% chocolate milk available for all students.
Milk costs $0.30 per 8 ounce container.
If your student would like milk, he/she should come to the milk cooler to purchase milk. We ask that you
send in money prior to your student getting milk. If you have more than one student at CCA, a family account can be set up. The family account will be listed under the name of your youngest student at CCA. Parents can check your student’s milk balance through
PowerSchool. Once you have logged into
PowerSchool, click on the green ‘$’ sign in the upper right hand corner to see your student's remaining balance.
If your account is in the negative, an email will be sent home. If the account reaches a negative balance of -$5.00, that student will no longer be able to purchase milk until the balance is paid.
If your student does not open the container and would like to return the milk,
a $0.30 credit will be given.
|
|
- Walk at all times in the lunchroom.
- Get your lunch, set it down, get milk if desired, then have a seat.
- Please stay seated for the duration of the lunch period.
- Raise your hand if you need something.
- When overhead lights are turned off, students are to stop talking immediately and listen for instruction from staff.
- When it is time to clean up, each table group is required to pick up and throw away all trash on, under, and around the table; wipe down the table, and put away any lunch bags. Your area should be left clean for the next group. Everyone is expected to help clean up!
- Quiet and clean tables will be the first to be excused.
- Lunch will be 40 minutes. The first 15 minutes must be spent in the cafeteria. The last 15 minutes must be spent outside at recess. During the middle 10 minutes, students may be inside or outside at their discretion.
PLEASE NOTE:
- For safety reasons, glass and knives, including plastic cutlery, are not allowed in the lunchroom. Please check all pre-packaged and fast food items for plastic knives.
- Please keep a copy of any hot lunches ordered so there is no confusion for your student.
- Birthdays are not celebrated in the lunchroom. All birthday treats are to be kept in the classroom.
|
|
As always, orders can be placed until 1:00 p.m. the day prior to delivery.

TR
AFFIC/SAFETY:
JHL has planned ahead to minimize the impact to normal school operations, including traffic. Morning drop off and afternoon pick up will not change. JHL has scheduled all deliveries and truck/equipment traffic outside of our drop off and pick up times.
JHL created a safety video for our website, highlighting the efforts JHL takes to separate students from the construction as well as their thorough background checks for their employees, and other important efforts being taken to ensure a safe construction site.
JHL, DCS, RTA architects, and CCA leadership meet and discuss new construction tasks that involve safety matters at weekly Owner, Architect, Constructor meetings to ensure the safest site possible.
TOURS:
We are working with JHL Constructors and DCS, CCA's Owner's Rep, to schedule monthly tours for anyone interested in walking the project to hear and see first hand the progress being made. These tours will be held immediately following our regularly scheduled monthly PTO meetings. The next tour date will be 02
/16
immediately following the PTO meeting.
Remember to wear close-toed shoes to participate!
