WINTER 2018
Upcoming Events
Please read below for details on our recent upcoming events. We hope to see you at at least one of these events!

CASA Day at the Capitol- Wednesday, February 14

This annual event for CASA staff, board members and volunteers from across the state will be held in the Freight Room at the Georgia Railroad Freight Depot in Atlanta. The day will include remarks by Nyeelah Inniss, a legislative briefing, meetings with legislators and a thank you luncheon for legislators to close out the day. Be sure to register soon!

This 14th annual event fundraiser, with a Parisian theme, will be held at a private club in Atlanta. Join us at 11 a.m. for this fun and fashionable event as we honor The Junior League of Atlanta. Bishop Rob Wright, a former foster child, will be the keynote speaker. The event includes a seated luncheon, fashions from Tootsies and Guffey's, and new this year - a silent auction. Sponsors and table hosts are invited to a Preview Party on an evening in March. Sponsorships, table hosts, individual seat tickets and Preview Party tickets are available. Click here for all the details.
Congratulations to Affiliate CASA Program Directors Lainie Jenkins and Dianne Scoggins on Retirement

We wish the best to two veteran affiliate CASA program directors as they enter retirement. Lainie Jenkins with CASA of the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit (headquartered in Statesboro) and Dianne Scoggins with CASA of the Appalachian Judicial Circuit (headquartered in Ellijay) recently retired. We encourage you to read more about them by clicking the links below. We are thankful for the amazing work they have done for their local affiliate CASA programs as well as helping to enhance the statewide CASA network.

CASA Award Winners from Georgia Conference on Children & Families

In late October, two CASA individuals received awards at the Georgia Conference on Children & Families that took place in Augusta. Congratulations to Jennifer King, Program Operations Director at Georgia CASA, and Marlene DeFrancesco, CASA Volunteer at CASA of the Appalachian Judicial Circuit. They were both recognized for their work in child advocacy.

Affiliate Program Highlights

CASA of the Appalachian Judicial Circuit (Fannin, Gilmer and Pickens Counties) was the recipient of over 3,500 stuffed animals from PetSmart Charities. The stuffed animals were donated by PetSmart customers for children in need and distributed by CASA to foster children all over the state. Once the need in North Georgia was met, the Gilmer County Sheriff's Office volunteered to take a van load of stuffed animals to the Tift County Sheriff's Office so foster children in the southern part of the state could also have stuffed animals, just in time for Christmas.

Coastal Plain CASA (Irwin, Tift, Turner and Worth Counties)  held the annual Casas for CASA playhouse fundraiser in December and raised over $13,000. Five playhouses were raffled.

CASA of Forsyth County hosted a very successful premier event, Mystery Masquerade, in November. The event was a modified mystery dinner theater that included a robust silent auction and wagon tours of historic sites in the county.
