| Multiple graded-stakes winner Green Mask arrives! |
Update From Michael..
Yesterday, just about a half hour after Game On Dude nosed out Little Mike in a 1/2 furlong sprint around their paddock, Green Mask arrived from Dell Ridge Farm. The millionaire 7-year-old son of Mizzen Mast suffered a career-ending injury last year and was forced into early retirement. Thank goodness trainer Brad Cox--and everyone else associated with this multiple graded-stakes winning gelding--adored him and paid for his life-saving surgery at New Bolton Center. Now, under the care of Hagyard's Equine Institute and the staff at Old Friends, we expect him to be ready to greet his fans in the spring.
But while we say hello to a new champion, we sadly had to say goodbye to an old warrior. Last week we lost Burrwood.
Not all of you knew
Burrwood. H
e has been at one of our boarding facilities since arriving from Louisiana in 2007, but he was a warrior among warriors nonetheless.
He didn't have much of a race record to speak of (49 starts, 5 wins, a little over $43,000 in earnings), but he was later rescued from a slaughter pen, and then adopted by Jamie and Tracy Frazier, who --literally--canceled their honeymoon to care for him at their home. They got him healthy and again, then Burrwood had to survive evacuation from Hurricane Katrina. Injuries prevented him from being a riding horse for the Fraziers, and so they contacted Old Friends.
Burrwood passed away quietly and peacefully alongside his best friend, Gallipat's Moment. He was 24.

This morning, the fencers started working again on our adjacent property. And, depending on the weather and other uncontrollable factors, we should be ready to increase our retirees before Keeneland opens in April. Some of the great horses that we're looking to retire are Brahms, River Squall, Cosmonaut, and AP Valentine, among others.
We're working on some really great ideas as we move forward that will illustrate the value of all these Thoroughbreds beyond their racing and breeding careers.
