POPE JOHN PAUL II REGIONAL CATHOLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Advent Season Filled with Prayer, Scripture and Service
Students participated in a weekly prayer service during the Advent season. An Advent wreath was placed and lit in the Main entrance and each classroom while scripture readings, songs and prayers were broadcast throughout the school each week by students from every grade.  Students also added symbols to the Jesse tree and figurines to the Nativity each afternoon as the meaning of each piece and symbol was shared over the loud speaker for all children to hear.
During the school's Thanksgiving outreach project sponsored by the student council, students collected over 500 lbs of non-perishable food items and several cases of batteries which were shipped to families in Puerto Rico who were devastated by Hurricane Irma.
Additionally over $1900 was raised to help rebuild a Catholic school in the Archdiocese of Huston that was devastated by Hurricane Harvey.
The adopt-a-family "dress festively" campaign raised over $2200 to help local families in need during the Christmas season and also helped defray the cost of shipping materials to Puerto Rico.
Families in Puerto Rico unpack the boxes of food and supplies donated by the PJP II School Community.
Students organize items to ship to Families in Puerto Rico.

The Advent Mural, designed and decorated by the upper grade students during Art class, was trimmed with "advent" good deeds handwritten and hung by each student in grades K through 8.

If you visited Longwood Gardens over the Christmas holiday, you may have seen PJP II amongst only 13 schools in the tri-state area that were selected to participate in this year's Christmas Tree Display.  The tree was adorned with ornaments created by our  5th, 6th and 7th grade students.  Congratulations to Mrs. Fader and our art students for being chosen to participate in this highly coveted display.
Christmas Traditions
Gathering at St. Peter Church, family members and friends enjoyed "On Our Way To Bethlehem,"a musical featuring our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. Directed by Music teacher Mrs. Tyler. Congratulations on a beautiful Christmas show!

Kinder through 2nd and 3rd through 8th grade "After the Bell" Drama clubs presented their plays for classmates and family members. Congratulations to all cast and crew members for a wonderful performance!

Saints Soar at Championships and Nationals
Four PJP II runners (Aryanna Alex, Cassidy McFeely, Arden McErlean and Clair Fader) earned All-Archdiocese honors at the  Championship meet and 9 out of 19 runners ran personal bests.  In addition, the minor girls team placed 5th in the Archdiocese out of 100+ schools.  To add icing to the cake, all seven runners who attempted to qualify for Nationals were successful.  The team ended the regular season with 4 team members new to the list of top 5 runners in PJP II history for their age group.  At Nationals, four Saint runners set personal records despite an extremely muddy course, and two team members (Aryanna Alex and Arden McErlean) earned All-American by finishing in the top 25 for their age group. Congratulations to the Cross-Country team on an outstanding season!
Crusaders Reach Playoffs

The Chesco Crusader boys Varsity football team finished with a winning season (5-2) and made it to the playoffs for the first time in 4 years.  The team is made up of student athletes from PJP II, Sts. Phillip and James, St. Joseph (Dtown) and St. Elizabeth school.  Pictured at left are PJP II's Varsity, JV, and flag football players.

Hour of Code
Eighty-one students in grades 5-8 received certificates for completing the Hour of Code which takes place throughout the world during Computer Science Education Week. On its 4 year anniversary, the Hour of Code surpassed 500 million users. Congratulations to all our students on this great accomplishment!
