Jurors Announced & Deadline Extended for 2018 Sondheim Artscape Prize

BOPA announces the jurors for the 13th annual Janet & Walter Sondheim Artscape Prize, and that the deadline for artists to apply is extended until
Friday, January 12, 2018
. The distinguished jurors for the 2018 competition are Lauren Cornell, Margot Norton and Kameelah Janan Rasheed. The prestigious competition awards a $25,000 fellowship to assist in furthering the career of a visual artist or visual artist collaborators living and working in the Greater Baltimore region

Alla Prima Oil Painting: The Portrait
February 3, 10, 17, 24, March 3 & 10

Taught by the instructor Kai Lun Qu, students will explore the art of painting the portrait from life. The class will focus on creating a portrait from the early stages of setup to the finishing strokes. Students will be working from both live models and photos while they are guided through various ways of handling oil paint in order to create a finished piece.

Light City invites businesses and residents to participate in Brilliant Baltimore by illuminating their buildings in the official Light City colors of turquoise, lime green and hot pink. New this year, Brilliant Baltimore expands to include not only businesses and attractions downtown, but residential areas throughout the city through the new
Brilliant Baltimore - Community Showcase Program
. The community group with the most popular light display in their neighborhood will win $2,018 to put towards their community, with nine honorable mentions receiving $1,000 each.

Baltimore Screenwriters Competition
Calling all screenwriters! The Baltimore Film Office is now accepting applications for the 13th Annual Baltimore Screenwriters Competition. Applicants can submit screenplays in the features and short categories. The top entries in both categories win cash prizes and the feature winners also receive all access passes to the 2018 Maryland Film Festival.
