Our thoughts and actions become habits and our habits shape our character. -The Buddha
Virtue Ethics

You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.
-Eleanor Roosevelt

I'm glad that I make spiritual practices to remind me of the core principles that help me with decision-making. I'm glad to have family with whom I must negotiate, a covenanted community to pull me back in, the sources of our faith to lift me up beyond what I might have as my best thoughts at any given moment, the wisdom of trusted friends, and a reminder that rest and renewal always bring new hope.

2018 marks 50 years since the death of Martin Luther King, Jr., the death of Bobby Kennedy, the summer where Olympic medalists Tommie Smith and John Carlos raised their fists and bowed their heads in a stand against black lynchings and black poverty.

May this anniversary encourage strength, courage and confidence.

Where might I find profiles in courage in my daily life? How might they inspire me?
