The Second Sunday after the Epiphany

Music to Honor Martin Luther King, Jr
For the next two Sundays, we honor the life, mission, and ministry of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by singing "Lift Every Voice and Sing", the "African American National Anthem" and an important part of the fabric of our life together as an inclusive parish in the Episcopal Church and Anglican Communion.

A Death in Our Extended Parish Family
We are sad to share the news that our Senior Warden, Nina Dixon's, mother died peacefully yesterday.  Nina and her sister are gathering with family this week, and we pray for them, giving thanks for the long and full life that has ended, and we pray for Florence, who died in the hope of rising again.

The service will be held in our chapel on January 31 at 11:00 AM.

Give rest, O Christ, to your servant with your saints.

Boys' & Girls' Choir
Sunday, January 14
We hope all children of the parishes in grades 3 through 8 will join us after the 10:00 a.m. liturgy for a brief rehearsal with Mr. Jennings in the Choir Room. Boys' & Girls' Choir will sing at the 10:-00 a.m. liturgy on February 11, April 1, and May 13.

Weekly Offering Envelopes
The Weekly Offering Envelopes are now available for pick-up (on the table just outside of Parish Hall).  If you didn't already request envelopes, but would like them, please call the office 908-766-2282 or email the office.

Annual Meeting
Sunday, January 28
Please join us for our Annual Meeting, on Sunday, January 28th, when we will have one worship service at 10 am with a meeting to immediately follow in the sanctuary.  Coffee and light refreshments will be served.  Nursery care will be extended until 12:30pm. Children's Entertainment will be provided during the Annual Meeting.  All children ages Pre-K and up are invited to Parish Hall to do crafts, while their parents attend the meeting.

Ladies' Luncheon Cancelled
The January Ladies' Luncheon is cancelled.  The next luncheon is scheduled for February 15th. Contact Wendy Argent-Belcher at 908-766-1011 if you would like to host.

Holy Baptism Dates for 2018
We baptize primarily on those dates set aside for baptism, as listed in the Book of Common Prayer.  Since the presence of the community of faith is essential for welcoming the newly baptized into the church, baptisms take place in the principal service on the appointed Sunday.  The next dates for Baptism are:
  • Sunday, February 11th at 10 am
  • Saturday, March 31st at 7 pm
  • Sunday, May 20th at 10 am
  • Sunday, November 4th at 10 am
Questions about baptism? Please email  Mo. Susan.

Altar Flowers Sign Up
St. John on the Mountain continues the tradition of having fresh flowers on the altars.  The arrangements enhance the sanctuary and are shared afterwards with the sick or divided to use again the following week in the chapel.  Donations of flowers are made as memorials or in thanksgiving for special occasions.  A date can be shared by more than one donor.  The 2018 flower sign-up charts are now posted on the bulletin board in the hallway of the church building, opposite the entrance to the Chapel sacristy. For dedications and specific floral requests email  Sue Kennedy  or the office or call 908-766-2282.  The cost is $100 for church altar flowers and $70 for chapel altar flowers.
Stock Donations
Don't forget that you can donate your Stocks to SJOTM. The tax advantages of giving stock, instead of cash, to church can make doing so very worthwhile.  We would be happy to accept stock donations for 2018 as form of pledge payment. To learn more, please email Lisa Keenan or call the office at 908-766-2282 ext 13.
