Builders Club Winter Clothing Drive

The Builders Club is collecting winter clothing to benefit Northern Virginia Family Services. All size clothing is welcome! Please label bags or boxes "NVFS Clothing Drive" and bring all donations to the gym by January 28. Thank you in advance!

The Winter Music Program theme of winter majesty was delightfully voiced by the entire school community on December 20. Directed by the talented Mr. Locke, each grade, the Junior Chorus, and the Griffin Chorale lofted songs of love, peace, and the delights of winter. The children's joy in performing and their vocal accomplishments showed the love and care with which they had been prepared. Also dazzling the audience were renditions of challenging classical pieces by Westminster's student orchestra, under the spirited direction of Ms. Crespo. The final number ("O, Fortuna" from
Carmina Burana)

The fairly new tradition of "It's a Wonderful Night!" has quickly become a popular event at Westminster School. The maintenance staff always does such a beautiful job decorating the outside of the school and this gives the community a chance to appreciate it! This year, it was a bit rainy, but we still had a wonderful evening by the fire and under the colonnade, enjoying hot cider, hot chocolate, hot dogs and cookies. The younger children spent much of their time in the theater making winter-themed crafts. Thank you to the entire administrative team who came together to make this event possible for our families!

What comes around just once a year . . . dressed in lots of red and green . . . abundant with seasonal songs and lots of sweet treats? It's the Cookie Party, of course! On December 21, students in preschool through 8th grade celebrated the season with delicious cookies and treats provided by their parents, and songs shared with their school mates. Hosted by the ever-jovial Mr. Glover, with special appearances by the 8th grade "Santa's Brigade," the Cookie Party once again sent joyous children off for the much anticipated winter break full of love and good cheer.

one day heard a

iticizing the way he had rendered a foot in a painting. Apelles then said to the shoemaker something very cutting and witty about how he shouldn’t presume to judge beyond his station. The exact remark has, unfortunately, been lost in time, but since the Latin phrase ultra crepidam means “beyond the sole,” we may imagine that Appeles used this, or something similar, in his rebuke. Hence, an ultracrepidarian is one who, as a shoemaker might, goes “beyond the sole,” and offers advice on matters they perhaps should leave alone.
