Dan Elwell Named Acting FAA Administrator
|
Daniel K. Elwell was recently appointed acting FAA administrator by U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao. He succeeds Michael Huerta, whose five-year term as administrator expired Jan. 6. Elwell has served as the agency's deputy administrator since June 2017, and was the FAA assistant administrator for policy, planning and environment from 2006 to 2008. “We welcome the appointment of Dan Elwell as acting administrator and look forward to working with him," said AEA President Paula Derks. "Mr. Huerta has been an exemplary leader of the FAA, enacting positive change during his term, including leading the revision to Part 23; the promotion of the risk-based certification of new products; and establishing a culture of forward-thinking policies within the agency as well as throughout the industry."

Avionics News Technical Training Exam Online
|
The 17th annual
Avionics News Technical Training Exam is now available for avionics technicians. The exam may be taken online by Aircraft Electronics Association members or downloaded by non-members. By completing the exam, which covers regulatory and technical topics featured in the 2017 issues of
Avionics News, technicians can get a head start on their FAA-accepted training. Individuals who complete the exam and score 85 percent or higher receive credit toward their repair station training program requirements, IA renewal, FAA AMT awards and the AEA Avionics Training Excellence Award.

GOGO BUSINESS AVIATION unveiled Gogo AVANCE L3, a new in-flight connectivity system that delivers the benefits of the Gogo AVANCE platform to passengers and flight departments in a small, lightweight form factor, with affordable pricing options.
STANDARDAERO was awarded an exclusive, five-year contract to provide Honeywell RE220 and Honeywell 36-150RJ model auxiliary power units maintenance repair and overhaul services/support for PSA Airlines Inc.’s fleet of CRJ 700/900 and CRJ200 aircraft. StandardAero also was awarded a five-year contract by Air Wisconsin to provide MRO services for Honeywell GTCP36-150RJ auxiliary power units on its fleet of 65 Bombardier CRJ-200 model regional aircraft. StandardAero announced that it will cease operations at its LAX-based business aviation repair station by the end of March 2018.
PEREGRINE received AML STC approval from Transport Canada for its TCAS II version 7.1 upgrade solution using the BendixKing CAS 67B system.
MID-CANADA MOD CENTER announced that its Kitchener base of operations will relocate to a larger new facility based at Chartright Air's Hangar 53 in Breslau, Ontario.
