Honoring the Life of Jonathan Tobash '16
Jonathan Tobash '16
On December 18, 2017, Jonathan Tobash, Poly class of 2016's life was taken prematurely as a result of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The 335th murder of 2017 in Baltimore City took the life of this fine young man as he entered a local store to make a purchase, while unbeknownst to him, it was being robbed. Known for his friendly smile and genuine interest in his fellow students, Jonathan always had kind words for those he met. A rugby player at Poly, Jonathan was also in the JROTC program. He enjoyed basketball and video games as well.

After hearing a presentation by the CEO of Whiting-Turner Contracting, Mr. Tim Regan, Poly '73, in his JROTC class, Jonathan spoke with Mr. Regan about summer internships. He was told that they only hired college interns but to give Mr. Regan a call, as he was very impressed by him at their meeting. Jonathan went on to become the first high school intern at Whiting - Turner. After graduating from Poly, Jonathan enrolled at Morgan State University where he was a sophomore studying industrial engineering.

A friend of Jonathan's said that Jonathan "wanted his name to be remembered for something he did," something he achieved, and for his name to "stand for something when people said it." A young, promising life, cut needlessly short. Jonathan will be missed by his Poly family. His classmates have set up a scholarship memorial fund in his honor - The Jonathan Tobash Scholarship. The fund aims to award $1,000 to a Poly senior who seeks to major in engineering at Morgan State University. You can donate to the fund by clicking this link and put "The Jonathan Tobash Scholarship" in the comments section OR mail a donation to: BPI Foundation 1400 W. Cold Spring Lane Baltimore, MD 21209 with the check memo section: The Jonathan Tobash Scholarship.

Please check future Poly email blasts and web site for more information as it becomes available.

Budgetary Input Meeting for All Poly Stakeholders
On Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at 5:00 P.M. in the library, Poly stakeholders are invited to provide their input on budgetary priorities for the 2018-2019 school year. Due to the new district funding formula, Poly will be facing a budget cut. At this meeting, Director Williams will discuss the budget process, but the bulk of the meeting will involve stakeholders breaking into self-selected groups to identify priorities for Poly. The areas of focus are: Academics, Climate, Technology, Security and a special group convening to discuss potential opportunities for fundraising. After the groups' reports, Director Williams will design a budget, taking into consideration the identified priorities. She will present her budget in the library on Wednesday, February 7th at 5:00 P.M. for a final discussion with the Poly stakeholders before presenting the budget to the district on February 13th. The identified priorities will also provide direction for any additional revenue in the coming year. Please demonstrate your Poly pride by actively participating, voicing your concerns, and offering your guidance!

Alumni Corner: C. Robert Daly
C. Robert Daly '60
Bob graduated from Polytechnic in February 1960 from the College Preparatory Course. While at Poly, he participated in numerous sports, including basketball, track and was part of the Varsity 56 - 59 MSA Championship golf team. Off the fields, he was involved in student government, a member of the honor society, teaching coach class and singing in the glee club.

After Poly, Bob graduated from the University of Maryland and then went on to become a fighter pilot. When his service to our country was completed, Bob went to work for Sealtest, where he held several positions.

With a passion for the game of golf, Bob decided to get involved in improving the game by developing new golf clubs, principally to improve the end result of some poor swing techniques which many golfers have. In 1975, Bob incorporated Tru-Stix Golf Co., where he developed and patented a "slice corrector" driver as well as other corrector clubs with an adjustable swing weight system that enables shifting the center of gravity to the heal or toe of the clubhead as required. The club face is opened or closed as needed for the correction of slice, hook or fade. He branched out making desk products using real wooden club heads including lamps, book ends, paperweights and penholder/perpetual calendar items. These products were sold world wide in Sears, JC Penny's, military, etc. Bob sold the business in 1980.

Now retired, Bob lives in Payson, Arizona, with Donna (his wife of 51 years). The Payson area is known for having the largest stand of Ponderosa pines in North America... making it one of three clear air zones in the world. Another successful Polytechnic alumni!
