Amos Media Final Phase Now Live on Advantage

by Cindy Twiss

Congratulations to the Amos Media Company (AMC), which recently completed the second and final phase of their Advantage implementation project.

AMC has four flagship publications geared toward coin and stamp hobby enthusiasts. Their product order business offers supplies and collectibles---more than 12,000 products---targeted to a similar audience. During this project, AMC was able to streamline their business by consolidating their four legacy systems into Advantage for all print subscription and product order fulfillment.

In the first phase of the project, AMC implemented subscription management for digital and print publications. They have now added products and inventory, accounts payable and other functionality to their mix, and moved their eCommerce platform to Cider.

Five Lessons Learned from 2017

by Dan Heffernan

2017 was a year.

I know...that seems obvious. But 2017 was loaded with the good, the bad, and some lessons learned from it all. Here are five that jumped out at me as 2017 ended:

1. Publishers are moving into membership models
Some years ago, we had a publishing client who published books and magazines around various special interests. But you couldn't "subscribe" to the products; you had to be a "member" to get them. Their belief was that a "member" was more loyal than a "subscriber." Given the interest areas they served (hunting and fishing and the like) I suspect that their low attrition rates were also due to the passion of their readers, rather than exclusively due to a clever marketing ploy around the word "member."

But lo and behold, Meredith (who is in the process of buying Time, Inc.) launched a membership model this year. And other major players are testing out their own membership approaches. It's a good thing we developed Members Advantage in 2016 to meet the demands of publishers moving in this direction. We developed it for membership associations, many of whom publish. But it is a perfect, integrated solution for publishers who have members.

Extensibility Services in Advantage

by Paul DesRosiers

Advantage offers many integration options within a technical ecosystem. One of those is done through Advantage's Extensibility Services framework. This framework allows our clients to create custom implementations of standard interfaces (e.g., address hygiene). This approach is an integral part of AdvantageCS's open system strategy.

The mechanics of the framework are straightforward: Advantage provides the extensibility service contract and interface files while the developer provides the implementation of the service. The service itself could be local to the Advantage software, distributed on a network, or web-based. In contrast, Advantage also supports many  out-of-the-box point-to-point integrations to specific vendor packages (e.g., CyberSource for credit card transactions).

Tidbits From Trade Shows

by Cindy Twiss

With the development of Members Advantage, we have begun to cast our net a bit farther when it comes to industry events such as conferences and trade shows. These shows are great opportunities to meet people and find sales leads, but also a place to keep on top of hot topics in the industry.

Recently, our team attended Digital Excellence (hosted by MemberWise) in Lon don, the America n Museum Membership Conference in Seattle, and AMS Fest in Washington, DC.

Philippe van Mastrigt attended the London conference and reported the following:

- Benefits are an important factor to prospects in deciding to become a member.

- Online content is an essential part of what members want from a membership.

- Print magazines are still a highly-rated benefit to members.

- Advantage seems to be the only system that has both strong membership management and strong publishing management.

Holiday Happenings at AdvantageCS

by Vinal Burbeck

The holiday season is a wonderful time at AdvantageCS (for other examples, see our  Facebook page ). In addition to friendly competitions like workspace decorating (below) and gingerbread house-making, we invited all of our employees and their partners to celebrate at our annual holiday party.

This   year, we changed things up with a new venue and a wide variet y of opportunities to win prizes ranging from board games all the
way up to a 60-inch TV. A few brave employees competed in comical "feats of strength" (such as seeing how far you can throw a tissue), while everyone entered our ever-popular raffle. All i n all, it was a festive evening filled with fantastic food, drink, and merriment.
