Come to Council Prepared to Do Business!

Join Bishop Andy Doyle, Canon Kai Ryan and CFO Linda Mitchell for one in a series of  pre-Council meetings , January 14-February 4. Meet others from your convocation who have been elected to represent their congregations, review proposed changes and amendments to diocesan church law and discuss the proposed budget before voting at Council. These meetings are meant to give you the opportunity to interact with fellow Episcopalians and your diocesan officials to gain a better understanding of the ministry of the Diocese in a smaller group where questions and answers can be more easily addressed. There you will find the  Journal   with reports to the Council, proposed budget, resolutions, proposed changes & amendments to Constitution and Canons as well as bios of those persons nominated for elected diocesan positions. The  Council worship book  will also be available for download for those who prefer to use an iPad during worship. 

Additionally, information on   lodging   and   restaurants   is also included. Documents needed for pre-council meetings will be gathered in one downloadable pdf on the same page for your convenience.

Sing, Sing, Sing ... Calling All to Raise Their Voices in the Diocesan Council Choir:
Calling all singers who want to participate in the Diocesan Council Choir for worship at the 1st Baptist Church in Waco, Thursday, February 15. Practice will be at the church from 4-6 p.m. on February 15. Please send an email to Linda Patterson if you are interested.

Volunteers : Please consider signing up to volunteer during the diocesan annual business meeting. Times are available from Thursday, February 15 through noon on Saturday, February 17. Register here .

Presiding Bishop to Visit
Harvey Affected Areas
Presiding Bishop Michael Curry will conduct four pastoral visits in January to hurricane affected areas of Florida, Texas and the Caribbean. He will visit the Diocese of Texas January 29 - 31. "These trips are an opportunity to call to mind our commitment to walk with our brothers and sisters, not just for the short run of the news cycles, for the long haul as communities are rebuilt and built anew."
Stacy Stringer Tapped to Manage Harvey Recovery for Diocese
The Rev. Stacy Stringer,  rector  of Holy Trinity, Dickinson, has been named Director of Hurricane Recovery for EDOT and will assume the new position on February 15. Holy Trinity, led by Stringer,  assisted  and supported some of the most vulnerable victims of the historic flooding . Learn more here.
St. Michael’s, Austin Calls
John Newton as Next Rector
The Rev. Canon John Newton, Chief of Staff for the Diocese of Texas has accepted a call to become rector of St. Michael’s, Austin, beginning March 1. During his seven-year tenure, Newton served as Canon for Lifelong Christian Formation, then as Chief of Staff, working with Bishop Andy Doyle to help shape the diocesan mission and culture. Member of St. Martin's, Houston One of Four to Join Episcopal Relief & Development's Board
of Directors
Shirley Stover Allen, a member of St. Martin’s, Houston, was recently named to the board of Episcopal Relief and Development. Allen  is a former commercial real estate attorney and active in numerous charitable organizations. She is a member of the Compass Rose Society, helping to support work of the Anglican Communion. College Retreat Helps Students Navigate New Waters
The theme for the 2018 Episcopal Diocese of Texas College Retreat is "Don't Tell Me What To Do". If you are in college or college bound, join the fun, January 26-28, 2018 at Camp Allen for worship, workshops and relaxation as you learn how to navigate the many conflicting messages about who to be, how to live, what to major in and much more. Register for EfM Mentor Training
Registration for Education for Ministry Mentor training, Feb 23-25, 2018 is now open here. Training will be held at Camp Allen. The early bird cost is now $300. After January 23, 2018, the cost will go up to $325. Fees cover your lodging, meals and materials provided.
Is God Calling You?
Registration Now Open for Discovery Retreat, February 23-25, at Camp Allen. The weekend retreat is designed for people discerning a sense that God is calling them to a specialized ministry, either lay or ordained. More than 100 "seekers" from across the Diocese have participated in a Discovery Retreat. For more information and registration click here .
Apply For a Young Adult and Campus Ministry Grants
The application process is now open for the 2018 Young Adult and Campus Ministry Grants, which provide funding for dioceses, congregations and community college/tribal college/university campuses for an Episcopal ministry (or ecumenical ministry with an Episcopal presence). Deadline to submit an applications is February 2. Apply now!
Spiritual Formation School Accepting Applications
You may be called to listen to another on his or her spiritual path. You may be called to teach workshops or lead quiet days. Or, you may be called simply to work on the transformation of your own soul and see where God leads you. FIND, a school for spiritual formation, now is offering programs in both spiritual direction training and in spiritual formation for ministry. Applications will be accepted until March 31. Calling Volunteers for General Convention
The General Convention of The Episcopal Church is coming to the Diocese of Texas. This triennial convention is responsible for conducting the business of The Episcopal Church. And, we need your help! Sign up to volunteer for General Convention being held in Austin. Volunteer shifts are available from June 29 to July 13. You can sign up online.
