As the first semester of this school year has ended, it is time to start thinking about next school year!
Students will receive course registration information for the 2018-19 school year later this month. The registration packet will include the new course description book, a course selection worksheet, as well as Summer School and Summer Gateway information. As parents and students work together to make course selections, please first consider teacher recommendations, which students will soon be receiving. Also, please use the course description book to review H-F's graduation requirements, course prerequisites and college entrance requirements.

New Voter Registration: Jan. 11
|
|
The H-F chapter of the League of Women Voters will be on campus during lunch periods tomorrow (Thursday, Jan. 11) to register new voters. Besides all 18-year-olds, any 16-year-old can register to vote if he/she will be age 17 at the time of the next primary (March 20, 2018), and any 17-year-old can register if he/she will be age 18 at the time of the next general election (Nov. 6, 2018). Two forms of ID (one showing your current address) are required. For more info, please call the Activities Office at 708-335-5054.

- Wednesday, Jan. 17: 3rd Annual Pursuing the Dream - Join in this celebration of Black History Month and promoting unity within the nation. - Thursday, Jan. 18: Advanced Academics Showcase - Explore H-F's Advanced Placement, IB, Project Lead the Way and MVP Academy courses, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Mall Auditorium. - Saturday, Jan. 20: H-F OPUS Wanderlust Fest - Enjoy a live & silent auction, German food and live music at this special event to benefit the H-F Viking Orchestra's performance tour of Germany, scheduled for this spring break. For more information, please click here.

Little Vikings Preschool begins in February
|
|
A few spaces remain in the afternoon session of
Little Vikings Preschool
, H-F's Child Development Laboratory Preschool program. This program - offered Feb. 20-May 22 - is for ages 3-5; children must have turned age 3 by Dec. 1, 2017, and must be potty trained to attend. Limited spots are available in the afternoons; class meets:
Mondays & Fridays 12:15-1:45 p.m., plus Tuesdays & Wednesdays 1:10-2:45 p.m. Fee is $130/child. For more information or to register, please contact Mrs. Pesha at 708-335-5227

Attention, seniors: Please stop by the Guidance Office before Feb. 15 to view the list of graduation names posted on the window. If your name is misspelled or if you would like to add your middle initial or full middle name, please fill out a name-change form in the office and return it to the registrar. The Flossmoor Community Relations Commission is pleased to be coordinating the 4th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service on Monday, Jan. 15. Local, non-profit organizations are encouraged to host a service project, and individuals and groups are encouraged to volunteer for those projects, making this a day on, not a day off! The Illinois High School Hockey League held its annual All-Star Game on Saturday, Jan. 6, at the Oak Lawn Ice Arena. H-F senior
Andrew Sline, sophomore
Eric Gerecke and freshman
Nick Sline were selected to represent H-F in the Hayes-Suburban division game. In addition, Viking coach
Wayne Perry (second from right) was selected by the league as one of the coaches for the All-Star Game, and Nick (right) was named the game MVP!
Also, the Viking Hockey team has been selected as one of the high school hockey teams of the month for January by the
Amatuer Hockey Association Illinois and the
Chicago Blackhawks! Watch for senior
Robb Hallam as he represents H-F at the Hawks vs. Minnesota Wild game tonight (Wednesday, Jan. 10); he will be interviewed by former Blackhawk,
Jamal Meyers. Game time is 7 p.m., and it will air on NBCSN.

14 Ways will be performed at 1 & 2:30 p.m. on Friday.

Girls Soccer players are Buddy's Helpers
Congratulations to sophomore Kennedy Jones and junior Cori Hoekstra, who will participate in the Pepsico Soccer Showdown this spring and who were involved with the Buddy's Helpers charity event on Monday! Buddy's Helpers unites Chicago-area high school student-athletes in an annual community service campaign, designed to make a difference on and off the field. Girls Soccer players from around Chicago gathered on Monday to make a donation of $3,500, plus present new reading center furniture, books, bikes and scooters to kindergarten students at Manierre Elementary School in Chicago.
