The Wave
January 26, 2018

As we get closer and closer to next week, the more excited I become.  We are dreaming about Spring Term here at TRCS!  Thankfully, we are giving the teachers the time to work on their units, learn about the amazing world of IP, and create a term for the end of the year that is brilliant! We thank you for helping us get there. We know that time out of school is not the best situation for anyone, but the gains from this time are HUGE!  We are able to form plans and put them into action for the future.  This is exactly what I love about TRCS. The plans are always intentional, thoughtful and never last minute. We work to think through everything - and thus make it look effortless! Trust me, it takes truly talented educators, big thinkers.  We are thankful that you allow us the time to meet and do this important work together!

Rainy Day = Positive Mood

This time of year it is so important for you to raise the blinds, and create a room of light during the day. Think about surrounding yourself with positive and productive people. Eating your favorite pie! Surprising someone you know with a special movie!  All of these activities are easy to do and inside. We are seeing kids with less activities and relying on a more dark mood. We hope that you will join with us and be in the light! It matters. Which is why we have so many windows in our school! Read more ideas here.
State of the School

On Tuesday, January 30th we invite all TRCS parents to attend our State of the School meeting. We will have presentations from teachers and the TRCS board. We ask that at least one representative from each family attend, and that students stay at home. This is a time to stop mid-year to see where we have been and where we are going. We really hope to see you! You can view the agenda here
We need some cookie bakers!!!!

The State of the School meeting will be a cookie share!  We want anyone who would really love to make some homemade cookies, made with love and care, to bring those to the State of the School for sharing with others. We don't need the store bought varieties because this is a special night. If you are interested in a bit of baking, please contact [email protected] and let us know you will bring some treats to share.
This year's TRCS annual Scripps Spelling Bee is officially started, and all students are invited to participate! There will be two rounds to help us determine who will represent Three Rivers Charter School in the Regional Spelling Bee at the Hollywood Theatre in Portland on Saturday, March 17, 2018. We have already seen students tackling their own lists around the building...it should be exciting!

First, there will be classroom spelling bees held in Language Classes on Monday, Feb. 5. Two students from each grade will move on to the next round where the school champion will be decided. The school championship will occur the afternoon of Friday, February 9th. (An exact time will be determined soon and advertised in next week's Wave.) Parents are welcome to come to the school championship. Grade level study lists were handed out today. Once one grade level list is mastered, other grade level lists can be provided by contacting Anish Goswami, Ms. Mitchell, or Ms. Collins. Though not provided on the lists we have, students can study and be prepared to ask for additional information on their words, such as alternate pronunciation(s), part(s) of speech, definition(s), use in a sentence, and language(s) of origin. We hope to see lots of people participating. After all, TRCS has sent a speller to the National Bee once before. Could the next national winner be one of our own? Good luck and get studying!

February PE
We had another great week at the N. Clackamas Aquatic Center this week! Hopefully, your student came home and told you of the fun and exercise they got each day! In February, we will be taking the whole school to The Courts in Beaverton for a Pickle Ball and Basketball unit. Students will rotate through the activities over the course of the week, so everyone gets a chance to play each sport! We will go February 20th - 23rd.
MAP Testing - Completed!
The Winter MAPS tests have been completed. Because we have so many computers for student use, we get these tests done in a very short time.  The growth that we have seen has been amazing! We are so thrilled to see students feel successful about their work and effort here at school. Our teachers will be meeting with your kids, if they express an interest in knowing how they did. Please have them contact their Language Arts or Math teachers and set up a sit down conference. They can then report back to you. GREAT WORK TRCS! YOU ROCK!
