ASL III begins Jan. 24; another ASL series to follow
AIM Independent Living Center will host an American Sign Language III course beginning Jan. 24, and registration is now open.

The eight-week course will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesdays from Jan. 24 to March 14 at the Corning AIM office, located at 271 E. First St. next to the Alternative School for Math and Science.

It is open to the community and is intended for people who have already taken ASL I and II at AIM, or for those with prior ASL experience.

The instructor will be Sin Yi Ko, who also teaches ASL at Corning Community College.

The fee is $80, and payment is due by Jan. 17. Register here and make checks payable to Sin Yi Ko, then mail them to AIM at 271 E. First St., Corning, N.Y. 14830, C/O Cindy Hamilton.

AIM will host another series of ASL courses later in 2018. ASL I will be offered twice, from March 21 to May 9 and from Aug. 22 to Oct. 10.

ASL II will be offered Oct. 17 to Dec. 5, and ASL III will complete the series in early 2019.

In new role, O'Dell to coordinate
Family Support Navigator Program
Allison O'Dell will be the coordinator of AIM's new Family Support Navigator Program, which is currently in start-up. 

The Family Support Navigator Program will help individuals and their families navigate addiction treatment services and recovery supports.

AIM will offer the program locally under a five-year, $500,000 grant from the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS).

O'Dell joined AIM in February 2015 and currently serves as coordinator of the Technology Related Assistance for Individuals with Disabilities (TRAID) Program. She will transition to her new role and help develop the Family Support Navigator Program.

Valentines Dance is Feb. 9
AIM will host a Valentines Dance from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9 at its Elmira office, 350 W. Church St.

The dance is open to people ages 14 and older who live at home and have Office for People with Developmental Disabilities eligibility. The cost to attend is $3.

Registration is due by Feb. 8.

AIM hires quality assurance, corporate compliance coordinator
Brandy Reynolds was hired as AIM's new Quality Assurance and Corporate Compliance Coordinator in December.

Reynolds has prior experience in quality assurance and corporate compliance, as well as with programs for traumatic brain injury, nursing home transition and diversion, and developmental disabilities, all of which AIM offers.
