We're thrilled to share an update for our new and incredibly talented illustrator, Alexander Vidal! Alexander's mural artwork is featured at the new Curiosity Grove at the
California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco!
Curiosity Grove is a hand-on educational exhibit featuring the diverse ecosystems of California, highlighted by Alexander's exquisite murals. The family exhibit features the beautiful forests of California. Visitors to the California Academy of Sciences will be falling in love with Alexander's work.
Here are some scenes from his murals!
Alexander's debut picture book,
So Many Feet
, about the many different kind of feet in the animal kingdom and what they do, was published by Abrams in 2017. Publishers Weekly said: "Debut illustrator Alexander Vidal uses limited color palettes, clean shapes, and sharp edges to create scenes that make a big graphic impact and are well worth lingering over."
Alexander is visually inspired by folk art, Midcentury design and California Modernism. While he is new to children's books, Alexander has illustrated for many commercial
c
lients including Adidas, The Wildlife Conservation Society,
Smithsonian
Magazine, and the California Academy of Sciences.
Prior to becoming an illustrator and designer, Alexander studied anthropology, taught elementary school, and worked as a wildlife education specialist at the Los Angeles Zoo. Originally from New Mexico, and having lived in Africa and Asia, t
ravel, exploration, and a love of animals and wild spaces continue to drive the themes of his work.
Alexander is a recent graduate of ArtCenter College of Design and lives in Los Angeles.
In 2018, Alexander is open to novelty, picture books, chapter books, middle grade books, as well as nonfiction and gift book illustration projects.
