St. Michael's Academy
  :

We are looking forward to so many things next week during Catholic Schools Week!  I want to thank all the parents who have donated items, are cooking food and are volunteering for events. These things would not be possible without your help. We have such a wonderful school community here at St. Michael's Academy!

The week will start out with our Open House and Family Heritage Celebrations from noon to 2 p.m. The Family Heritage Celebration will transform many of the classrooms on the first and second floors into different countries. A map and passport will be given out to help you navigate. We are grateful to our many families who will be sharing their cultures with us. We will also be announcing our SchoolsNEXT winners at 1:45 p.m.  It will be a busy day and I hope you can join us!

There are many activities planned throughout the week. Please click here for a listing.  As you may know, donations to the Gray House have been collected and a representative from the Gray House will visit St. Michael's Academy and share with the students how these items will be used.  It's a wonderful lesson for the students to hear first-hand how their gifts are helping others.
The week will wrap up with our Pasta Supper on Saturday, Feb. 3rd.  We are still in need of volunteers, especially servers, so if you are able to help out for a half hour, please let us know. Winners for the calendar and basket raffles will also be drawn that evening. It's a fun and exciting evening!

Hope to see many of you at upcoming events. Enjoy a nice weekend.

Peace,

Ann E. Dougal
Principal

Sky's The Limit Challenge!
Can You Meet The Challenge?

Giddy-up and don't forget about our amazing opportunity this year for The Fund for St. Michael's Academy!

We are incredibly lucky to have an anonymous benefactor who has thrown out a challenge that is too good to resist! All NEW gifts, all LAPSED donor gifts, and all INCREASED gifts will be matched dollar for dollar.  Imagine the possibilities for St. Michael's Academy?!

Get on board and help spread the word ... encourage anyone who has not yet made a gift to consider making one this year.

To everyone who has already made a gift to The Fund this year - THANK YOU!!!

Open House and Heritage Celebration!

Open House

There will be a special presentation for prospective students and their families at noon.  Know of a family considering St. Michael's Academy? Please encourage them to attend!  Don't miss the choir performance in the gym at 12:30 p.m.!

Heritage Celebration

It's not too late!  We are still in need of heritage representation.  Have some things you would like to share?  Please bring them on Sunday and we will set you up!

Attendees will receive a passport and map of the classrooms and what countries you will find in each. Don't miss dance performances, games, food, music and much more!

Perfect Attendance

Good Attendance Pays Off !

Congratulations to our perfect attendance dress-down winners! In order to qualify for the weekly drawing, a student must have no absences, tardiness or early dismissals the previous week of school. We select one from PreK - 2nd grade, one from 3rd - 5th grade and one from 6th - 8th grade.  Congrats to this week's winners!

         Stephanie- Gr. PreK-4B                              Jeff - Gr. 3B

   Clare  - Gr. 8B

From The Classroom of Mrs. Morrill - Gr. 3

Pencils Are Flying In Mrs. Morrill's Classroom!

This week in third grade, we were all about writing friendly letters!  We have been invited to become pen pals with a class in Puerto Rico affected by the hurricanes last fall.  Their first letters should be arriving any day, and we are getting ready to respond!  We learned about the parts of a friendly letter and what should be included to make the recipient feel special. Then, the students wrote letters to heroes of our Catholic faith. They chose to write to Jesus, Mary, or one of the Apostles about their experiences during the formation of the Church. Below are just a couple of our great pieces of writing!

We are also gearing up for Catholic Schools Week. We have had many donations for the Gray House collection and for the raffle.  We think our "Arts & Crafts" basket will be in high demand with all of the fun activities and art supplies our students have brought in!  This year at the Heritage Celebration, the third grade will be participating in a special song with fourth and fifth graders.  Ask your student what language they will be singing in, and join us on Sunday to hear it live!

 Grade 7 Science

Comparative Anatomy

Did you ever wonder the difference between human connective tissue and chicken connective tissue?

Well the students in Mr. Starzyk's Science class were evaluating just that very thing.  Students dissected chicken parts in order to take an in-depth look at the different types of tendons and ligaments and how chicken joints compare to human joints.

We're guessing no one wanted chicken for dinner that night!

Whoops!

 Whoops...We Made A Mistake!

When you make a mistake...you have to admit it.  And we made a mistake in the tallying of the Walk-a-thon Award monies.  The result was that 2nd grade student, Ryan, who was tied right down to the penny for the most money raised in the elementary level, was not recognized.

So Ryan is now the proud owner of a $50 Amazon gift card.  We hope you buy some cool stuff, Ryan!

  Calendar Raffle

Getting Ready To Win Some $$ !!

All calendar raffle money is due on Monday!  Any family that sells 5 calendars will enjoy a dress-down day!

Ten Gift Baskets Everyone Would Love To Win !

And don't forget the raffle baskets!  Tickets may be purchased during Open House and during Catholic Schools Week. The winners will also be drawn at the Pasta Supper.

Don't miss the fun!
