US Paralympian, Brittani Coury addressed the Durango Professional Women's Network last month (which FCCB proudly sponsors), just weeks before leaving for the Winter Paralympic Games in PyeongChang, South Korea. A local and lifelong snowboarding enthusiast, Brittani suffered an ankle injury while snowboarding that led to multiple surgeries, years of painful rehabilitation, and eventually to amputation, halting her ability to pursue her passion. That is, until she decided to take a chance, and get back on the snow as an amputee. She  is currently ranked as the leading female in the U.S. in her category and a podium contender  in boardercross and banked slalom.

Insight: Tips to Avoid Online Dating Scams
Social media networks and dating websites have become increasingly popular tools for finding relationships. Unfortunately, fraudsters have capitalized on this trend and often create fake profiles to lure in victims, establish romantic relationships, and eventually, extort money.  According to the FBI, over $220 million was lost in 2016 to online romance scam artists. Older Americans in particular have been targeted by this type of scam.  If you're concerned that you or a loved one are being scammed, consider the following precautions:
  • Slow down  and talk to someone you trust. Don't let a scammer rush you.
  • Never send cash, a gift or re-loadable card, or money via wire to an online love interest. You won't get it back.
  • Contact the bank right away if you think you've sent money to a scammer.
  • Report your experience to:
    • The online dating site
    • Federal Trade Commission (ftc.gov/complaint)
    • FBI (ic3.gov)
