SAFETY TIP OF MONTH:
Move Over
From FLHSMV: Florida law requires you to Move Over a lane - when you can safely do so - for stopped law enforcement, emergency, sanitation, utility service vehicles and tow trucks or wreckers.
  • If you can't move over - or when on a two-lane road - slow to a speed that is 20 mph less than the posted speed limit.
  • Slow down to 5 mph when the posted speed limit is 20 mph or less.
Read more about the  Move Over  law.
PARTNER UPDATE:
I-4 Ultimate

EB I-4 off-ramp to NB Kirkman Road changed from left to right exit

A traffic shift that opened Dec. 22 on eastbound Interstate 4 between Sand Lake Road (S.R. 482) and Grand National Drive moved the exit onto northbound Kirkman Road (S.R. 435) from the left side of I-4 to the right.

The traffic shift moves eastbound I-4 lanes between Sand Lake Road and Grand National Drive closer to westbound I-4.

The most noticeable difference for motorists is the realignment of Exit 75B to northbound Kirkman Road. It's now on the right side of eastbound I-4.  Exit 75A to Universal Boulevard remains in the same location.

We hope your new year is off to a great start!

Safety Campaign

In collaboration with the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), CFX has launched a public awareness campaign aimed at drivers passing through work zones.

The campaign seeks to increase awareness of construction workers on our expressways and cautions drivers to slow down and be alert.

Part of the Safety Campaign will be working with FHP on educating drivers.

"Our goal is to get them to understand the dangers that they put these workers at risk and to reduce these types of crashes that we're seeing," said FHP spokesperson Sgt. Kim Montes.

What should a driver do if they're involved in a minor crash along the expressway?

"The law requires you to move the cars out of the roadway off onto the shoulder, if nobody is hurt and the cars are moveable," Montes said. "It does two things. It prevents a secondary crash and it helps with congestion."

Rear-end type crashes are the most common type of work zone crash.

To avoid a work zone crash:
  • Slow down
  • Be aware of driving conditions
  • Stay off smartphones and other electronic devices
  • Don't tailgate - follow the 2-4 second rule (stay at least two to four seconds behind any vehicle that is directly in front of your vehicle) to maintain a safe following distance.
CFX will be sharing these safety messages with the community throughout the campaign.

If you need emergency assistance, call 911 and report your problem and location.

If you need help with your vehicle, dial *347 (*FHP) and ask for a Road Ranger to be sent to your location.

Follow @DriveEpass for traffic and roadway alerts.
