February 4: Congregational Meeting at 10:30 AM
Our Annual Congregational Meeting is coming soon, on Sunday, February 4. The meeting will be between the two services, in the Sanctuary at 10:30 AM. We'll plan the early service to finish a few minutes early, and will open the doors for those arriving, and then start. We will be finished by about 11 AM, so that everyone can go to his or her class, or to the late worship service.
Here is the business of the day: a State of the Church address by Keith, presentation of the 2018 Budget by Treasurer Susan Andrews, and the election of three Elders. Those to be nominated are: Susan Andrews, Robin Edwards, and John Harler.

Pizza, Trash Talk, and a Good Time for All
Our men supervised the College National Championship from their perch in the Man Cave. Wally Smith gave a great faith pep talk at half time. Everyone got his quota of cholesterol, and had a big time hooting and hollering. And even the Georgia fans seemed to be okay!
Stay tuned, men, for the next round of gathering around the tube for a championship.

ADULT DISCIPLESHIP CLASSES
SUNDAYS
A class for those who attend the contemporary service
Meets Sundays at 9:30 AM in Robins Room
"I'd Like You More If You Were More Like Me"
by John Ortberg
In this 6 week video series, we'll look at one of life's most important questions: How can I get closer to God and other people? After all, we can't win in life without making deep connections. But sometimes that's difficult because we're so different from each other---and from God! The good news is that intimacy is based on shared experiences, not our similarities. Ortberg reminds us that our Creator longs to be closer to us---and to become part of our daily lives.

A class for those who attend the traditional service
Meets Sundays at 11 AM in the Upstairs Classroom
Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther
taught by James Anderson
James Anderson will lead this class in an in depth look at the Biblical books of Ezra, Nehemiah and Esther and their application to our lives today. The books of Ezra and Nehemiah tell of new beginnings. Much like the Acts of the Apostles narrates the history of the early church, Ezra and Nehemiah tell the story of the re-establishment of the people of God after the exile through the work of Sheshbazzar, Zerubbabel, Ezra, and Nehemiah. Esther is a story about a young girl who becomes queen. It portrays the minority Jewish community in the dependent state of Diaspora, navigating a precarious existence in two worlds. The book of Esther is about the triumph of right over wrong, of God's people over their enemies. There is much to be gleaned from these ancient books.
On Wednesday Nights beginning January 10, join us for dinner at 5:45 PM,
followed by class in Robins Room from 6:30 - 7:30 PM.
An Introduction to Inductive Bible Study
taught by Sarah Marsh Schutte
Back by popular demand and expanded to cover 5 weeks, this class meets Jan. 10 to Feb. 7. Week one will introduce the Inductive method of study. The following weeks we'll study various types of Biblical literature, including History, Psalms, Gospel Narratives, and Epistles. At the end of this course you will be able to study any passage of Scripture using Observation, Interpretation, and Application questions, with the hope that you'll be equipped to pass it on and teach others how to study Scripture.
