Happy New Year! Welcome to the first issue of Industry Insights in 2018! The new year is always filled with anticipation and excitement, opportunity and change.
Here at Durham Tourism we are looking forward to once again working with all of our stakeholders across the region. We can't wait to see what you have in store for 2018. It's going to be a great year!

Reminder: set up your new events account
With the launch of the new durham.ca in December, came a resetting of our events calendar accounts. You will need to create a new username and password on the site to enter any new events. Visit the new event calendar page to
reset your login information and submit your events under the Community Events and Festivals calendar.
York Durham Headwaters winter site
There is no shortage of adventure in Durham Region in the winter. Skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, and fat biking are all activities open for visitors to explore! Check out the
York Durham Headwaters winter website, which launched on
January 1. The site introduces visitors to getaways in Durham Region, including winter sports, winter celebrations, and where to eat in delicious Durham!
Whether visitors are experienced winter sports enthusiasts or just trying something new for the first time, the region offers something for everyone, and the winter website is designed with them in mind.
2018 Canada Summer Jobs application period open
Need a little extra help this summer? Why not hire a student? The 2018 Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) application period is now open, and financial assistance for wages is available! The CSJ program provides funding to help not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers, and small businesses with 50 or fewer employees. Applications will be accepted until
February 2. The
application guide is available on the CSJ website at
www.canada.ca/canada-summer-jobs. Applications can be submitted online, by mail or in person at any Service Canada Centre.

Did you know that the Ontario Trillium Foundation seed grant registration deadline is January 31 at 5 p.m.?
The foundation distributes its funding to charities and not-for-profits based upon six different action areas:
Encouraging more active lifestyles.
Building inclusive and engaged communities together.
Encouraging people to support a healthy and sustainable environment.
Enriching people's lives through arts, culture and heritage.
Supporting the positive development of children and youth.
Enhancing people's economic well-being.
Applying for funding with the Ontario Trillium Foundation is a two-step process. Step one involves registering your organization by the January 31 deadline. Step two is the application process, which must be submitted by February 21 at 5 p.m. For more information visit the foundation's website.

Take advantage of Sport Durham's monthly sport events radar to ensure that your business is prepared to welcome incoming athletes and visitors to Durham Region during key sport events!
Keep the following event on your radar:
2018 Skate Canada Synchronized Skating Championships, February 23 to 25, at the Tribute Communities Centre, Oshawa. Skaters from across Canada will compete for team national titles in the senior, junior, open, intermediate and novice categories. Approximately 40 teams and 800 skaters from across Canada.
