Lovejoy High School

A Message from the Principal

Lovejoy HS News 01 08 18

P arents and Guardians,

I imagine that today held mixed feelings for many of you as kids headed back to school from the break. Personally, Christy and I really enjoyed the break and the opportunity to have all four of our children home for a portion of the time. This morning was a little difficult, but I am sure all of us will quickly get back into our normal routine.

For the last several years, LHS has held our Advanced Academics Banquet on the Sunday night before the beginning of the spring semester. Last night, we continued that tradition and spent the evening honoring the 274 students who were recognized by College Board as Advanced Placement Scholars based on their performance on AP Exams last May. It was a great evening as we celebrated the success these students have achieved through their hard work and support of parents and teachers. Congratulations again to this group!

This Friday, students will be receiving their fall semester report card during class. They should bring them home for you at the end of the day. You can also use your parent access to PowerSchool to view your student's final fall semester grades on Friday.

As a reminder, next Monday, January 15th, LISD will be closed in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Please take a few minutes to review the rest of the information that can be found below in this email. We will continue to update the schedule and information throughout the semester to keep you up to date.

Sincerely,

Chris Mayfield
Principal
Lovejoy High School

JV division:

1st place:  David Gold

For the complete team results please click here.

Varsity division:  Our men faced some tough competition and our results showed this. We have some great individual potential on our team; we just haven't been able to put complete matches together yet.  We wrestled several men in the varsity division for the first time. The experience was great and will serve all well in the future. Out of eight wrestlers, we took home three medals. Senior James Ayers led the team with a gold medal finish!  Freshman Ralph Rucker kept his streak alive by finishing with the silver medal. Rucker has placed in every tournament his freshman year. Sophomore Alex Vislosky was a welcome addition back in the lineup and finished with the bronze medal.

3rd place - Alex Vislosky
2nd place - Ralph Rucker
Champion - James Ayers

Supporting LHS Students through Senior Project Judging
It is difficult to believe how quickly the school year is flying by. At the high school, this means that some LHS Seniors are nearing the time for their Senior Project Presentations.

Senior Project is an exciting part of every LHS senior's experience as they explore topics of their choice and share what they learn with members of the community. There are different components of the project including creating a proposal, writing an annotated bibliography, and completing an activity. As the culminating event of their Senior Project, students give an 8-10 minute presentation about their experience to a panel of adult volunteer judges. These judges score students on their presentation skills and give them feedback designed to help them in their future pursuits.

We want to extend to you the invitation to share in this experience as a Senior Project Judge. Presentations will take place at Lovejoy High School on January 18th, February 13th and March 7th. Presentations begin at 6:30 p.m. and should conclude by 8:30 p.m. at the latest. Judges training begins at 5:30 p.m. for those who have never judged Senior Project presentations. Those who judged in past years may arrive at 6 p.m. A light meal is served each night.
