MLK Day of Service
On Monday, Jan. 15, we will observe the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Though there will be no school for students that day and no work for many adults, we are encouraged to honor Dr. King's legacy of service by making it a day "on," rather than a day "off," by volunteering. Several organized projects are listed online, but you can also simply help out a friend or neighbor in need or organize your own community service effort, if you like.

HSF Innovative Education Grant Process is Now Open
The Hillsboro Schools Foundation is now accepting abstracts for its
2018-19 Innovative Education Grants awards. This year, HSF staff put together a clever
video to describe what they're looking for and how to apply for the grants, and developed an
online form for the submission of abstracts, which should greatly streamline the application process. The deadline for submitting abstracts is Tuesday, Feb. 6; click here for the
scoring rubric.

Nominations are currently being accepted for both the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce's

Statewide Election on Measure 101 is Jan. 23 |
Oregon will hold a statewide special election on Tuesday, Jan. 23, to allow voters to weigh in on Measure 101. A "yes" vote on the measure approves a law passed by the Legislature during the last session to levy temporary assessments on insurance companies, some hospitals, and other providers of insurance or health coverage; a "no" vote on the measure rejects the law. The measure has implications for the state's 2017-19 budget, so please take some time to read through your voter pamphlet and cast your ballot by Jan. 23!
