Hot Breakfast
Breakfast this coming Sunday, January 28, will be provided by guest chef, Gretchen Wood.

Please plan on joining everyone in Board Hall between 8:30am and 9:45 where you will not only enjoy great food but a time for fellowship.

A Note from our Rector
If you have not had the opportunity yet to see our renovation and expansion plans, or would like to take a closer look, we'll be offering 29-minute sessions after each of our three Eucharist on the weekends of
January 27th & 28th and February 3rd & 4th .

So that's at 6:30pm on Saturday and at 9:00am and 11:30am on Sunday.  The presentation will include information about what we plan to do, why, and how enhancing our facility will help propel us forward in our mission to offer An Open Welcome.

The presentation will be brief to allow plenty of time for questions.

2018 Contribution Envelopes are available at both main entrances to the church.

Please be sure to sign your name (legibly) AND the envelope box number on the sheets provided. If you don't, we have no way of identifying your cash donations.

If the container runs out of boxed envelopes, we will refill prior to the next weekend, but also check at the other entrance for more. Thank you!

Louisville Three Choirs Festival
On Sunday afternoon, 28 January, at 3:00 p.m., Calvary Episcopal Church (821 S. 4th St.) will host the Louisville Three Choirs Festival, part of Calvary's Sacred Arts Series. The choirs of Christ Church Cathedral and the Cathedral of the Assumption will join the Calvary Choir to present a concert of sacred music, with each individual choir performing a short program and the combined choirs singing Brahms's Geistliches Lied, DuruflĂ©'s Ubi Caritas, Stanford's Beati Quorum Via, and Ireland's Greater Love.

All are invited to a reception hosted by the Calvary Choir following the concert.

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper
Come one ~ Come all to the annual St. Luke's 'Mardi Gras' themed Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper! The event will be held on February 13th in Board Hall from 6:00 - 8:000 PM. The youth of St. Luke's will be serving an abundance of delicious pancakes with maple syrup (sugar free will be available), bacon & sausage, along with juice and coffee. In addition, gluten-free pancakes will also be served.

Members of the youth will be selling tickets following the church services beginning Jan. 27th. The ticket prices will be $7 per person and $20 per family. There is no charge for children under the age of twelve! There will be live music and entertainment, and also the crowning of a Mardi Gras King & Queen!

Not only will this be a wonderful time for outreach and fellowship, but the supper is also a fundraiser for the youth of St. Luke's. If you have a talent (musical, dance, etc.) that you would like to share during the event please contact Rev. Shelley or the church office for more information. All are welcome and encouraged to invite friends and neighbors!

St. Luke's Book Club
YOU ARE INVITED to St Luke's Book Club, February 13 at 6:30pm! Our book selection for February is My Grandmother Asked Me To Tell You She's Sorry by Fredrik Bachman, who also wrote "A Man Called Ove," which led the New York Times Book List for several weeks last year and your St Luke's Book Club recommends it, too, for your reading enjoyment.
The storyline for our current selection describes an apartment building with a myriad of eclectic and interesting folks and the interaction of a little girl's polarizing Grandmother with the residents and her own family.  Grandmother was WAY before her time with ideas, actions, and education of her granddaughter.  Brilliantly written which may encourage the reader to review events and actions in his/her own life.  This book also provides a way to teach children fundamental truths about the world.  Paints a vivid portrait of the relationship between an older person nearing the end of life and a young child which gives us examples for people at opposite ends of life to learn from each other.  Vividly portrays how folks of all ages are often very much alike and how stories from older folks can provide comfort for children; i.e., fairy tales do play a part in inter-generational relationships.

MEETING INFO : Lyman House, February 13, SECOND (2nd) Tuesday monthly at 6:30 PM for 2+- hours of rousing conversations and introductions to books of almost every genre. At the end of each meeting, we discuss books for the next month's selection, so bring your suggestions with you.

Music Series resumes Feb. 18 at 4pm
We're pleased to welcome Scott Moore, violin, John Moore, saxophone and Lisa Lewis, piano, in concert on the first Sunday of Lent, February 18 at 4:00 pm.  Choral Evensong, sung by St. Luke's Choir will begin at 4:30 p.m.   Evensong is the perfect service to invite your friends and neighbors to attend!  St. Luke's is a beautiful and evocative setting for 16th century choral music.  The choir will sing Robert Whyte's "Christ who art both night and day",  Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis (Collegium Regale) by Herbert Howells and "Evening Prayer" by Robert Lee.

The Bluegrass Mass concert scheduled in March has been postponed until Fall 2018 - please mark your calendars.

St. Luke's Annual Silver Tea
St. Luke's Annual Silver Tea will be Sunday, February 25, in Board Hall following the 10:00am service.   St. Luke's has hosted the Silver Tea for over 45 years. Donations support Home of the Innocents which provides shelter and care for children who are without support when their families are in trouble. A representative for the Home will speak at the Tea.

This year's Tea reception will feature tea, coffee, wine, etc. and finger foods. Anyone who can donate, please bring finger foods to Board Hall. If you need child care, please contact the church office in advance and we will gladly provide it. Come enjoy the fellowship and participate in outreach.

In 2011, St. Luke's received the Childfriend of the Year award from Home of the Innocents for all the support we have given them over these many years. Let's generously support the Home again this year!
