Bonjour.
As you all may know, for almost two years now, CODOFIL has negotiated and facilitated , in cooperation with Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB) and with the financial support of La Fondation Louisiane, the broadcasting of children's educational programming in French every week day afternoon from 3 to 5 p.m. on LPB#2. Think Sesame Street in French. These award-winning educational programs are produced by Television Francais Ontario (TVO). LPB#2 can be viewed throughout the state except in the New Orleans area. Public television in the New Orleans area is served by WYES.
I am very pleased to announce that WYES, beginning Monday, Feb. 5, 2018, every week day afternoon from 3 to 5 p.m., will commence broadcasting these programs. The programs can be viewed on WYES World Channel 13.2 (over the air) and on Cox Channel 113. We can call this a pilot effort as WYES will broadcast these programs in the months of Feb., March, April, and May. Your response to these educational programs, among other considerations, may determine if they will continue.

Johnson Campus: JANUARY 26TH
We still need people to sign up to bring King Cakes! A reminder that they must be dropped off on Friday morning between Early morning Drop Off and 830am. I will be collecting the King Cakes at Carpool Drop Off.
While parents, grandparents may attend on Friday please remember that this is first an event for the students. Please allow the students to have King Cake and snacks first to make sure that we have enough for them. Also, it has been suggested that parents arrive a little bit later (unless you are signed up to volunteer!), around 2:15 PM so that you will see the band but the kids will have some time to celebrate on their own for a bit. Everyone is also invited to the pep rally at 3:30 PM. The reason for this 2:15. PM suggestion is just the sheer volume of kids and teachers and parents coming in at once. All guests must enter through the front office. Because Patton campus students will have their own celebration, they may not be checked out to attend the Fete de la Galette.
Patton Campus: FEBRUARY 9TH
There will be a grandparents celebration with champagne and King Cake offered at 1:00 PM prior to the 1:30 PM parade on Friday, February 9. We still need a lot of chaperones for the Patton parade. Please sign up today!

The New Orleans Public Library is seeking students to participate in its Black History Month Poster Contest. This year's theme is "African-Americans in Times of War." The contest is open to all students in grades pre-K through 12. Please check with your children because they will be bringing home the contest rules and an entry form.
SUGGESTED RESEARCH TOPICS: Buffalo Soldiers: the first peacetime all-black regiment in the regular US ARMY; the Tuskegee Airmen: the first African-American men to serve as military aviators; or Jordan Noble, the free man of color whose steady drumbeat guided local forces in their fight against the British in the Battle of New Orleans.
OR students may choose to honor a friend or family member who has served or is serving in the military.

We currently do not have enough members to form a community team. There are currently 3 members signed up and to form a team there needs to be at least 6 - 8 to continue. To form a team enough students must register before the start date, Monday, January 29th. You can register HERE.
The team will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 - 5:30 PM at 7100 St. Charles Avenue (Baptist Church Building) starting January 29.
