Happy New Year, Wauwatosa School District Families!
Have you had enough of the arctic chill yet? The recent weather is a good time to remind all families of our procedure for school closings during the winter months.
In general, Wauwatosa Public Schools will not be closed due to weather unless there is a Winter Weather
Warning -
this may include a Wind Chill Warning, Blizzard Warning, Winter Storm Warning, etc. - determined by the National Weather Service.
We will
not
cancel school for Winter Storm Advisories. To see how the National Weather Service determines the difference, click
HERE.
In the event a Winter Storm Warning is issued, a decision to close school will be made no later than 6 a.m. Our school closing notification procedure is as follows:
- Parents and staff will receive notification via an automated phone call through BlackBoard, an email notification, and a text alert if a mobile phone is listed in their emergency contact info.
- Notifications will be posted on our District website - www.wauwatosaschools.org, as well as on our social media pages (Facebook and Twitter).
- Additionally, this notification will also be shared with local radio stations and the following TV affiliates:
- CBS 58 WDJT-TV
- WISN-TV 12
- FOX TV6 NEWS
- WTMJ-TV4
Also, with the winter months please remember to make sure your child is adequately dressed for the weather. In the event of an emergency, we want to make sure every student would be prepared for the elements if they need to leave the building.
Sincerely,
Phil Ertl
Superintendent
