"No Dads No Masters"
No Dads, No Masters serves as an interrogation of white, working-class, midwestern, hetero-masculinity as a material subject, and subsequently, an interrogation of myself, as I am of this array. The artworks presented, and writing herein, make for a repositioning of contemporary gender theories to be overlaid onto these specific material masculinities.

Save the Date - February 6
The Institute for Latino Studies welcomes Nilda Flores-González, Professor of Sociology at the University of Illinois at Chicago, to present on her latest book titled Citizens but Not Americans: Race and Belonging among Latino Millennials. A reception and book signing will precede the event on February 6th at 6:15 p.m. in the McKenna Hall Atrium. The lecture will begin at 7:00 p.m.

"In Citizens but Not Americans, Nilda Flores-González examines how Latino millennials understand race, experience race, and develop notions of belonging. Based on nearly one hundred interviews, Flores-González argues that though these young Latina/os are U.S. citizens by birth, they do not feel they are part of the “American project,” and are forever at the margins looking in. The book provides an inside look at how characteristics such as ancestry, skin color, social class, gender, language and culture converge and shape these youths’ feelings of belonging as they navigate everyday racialization." – NYU Press

Gender Studies is about understanding people, both yourself and others. Gender Studies teaches us how human identities are shaped by gender and related traits such as sex, sexuality, race, ethnicity, class, religion and nationality. Through Gender Studies, we not only strive to understand people better, but because of this endeavor, we hopefully become more understanding people.
