Over the past month, ACES Ed has seen new learning adventures for students, families, and teachers from the Roaring Fork Valley and beyond. We hosted our
2nd annual Owl Night at Crystal River Elementary School (CRES)
: a wonderful opportunity for 1st grade students to educate their parents and siblings about the amazing adaptations of local owl species. From owl pellet dissection under our projection microscope to live feeding of our resident Great Horned Owl, CRES students became "the teachers" by sharing different elements of their
Project Based Learning (PBL)
unit on these amazing creatures.
Also, ACES officially began its pilot program with our
new partner school Kathryn Senor Elementary (KSE)
in New Castle. On the coldest morning of our school year, the 2nd grade students from KSE snowshoed along the top of Aspen Mountain, exploring winter adaptations and snow science above 11,000 feet on Richmond Ridge. The ACES Ed partnership with KSE will expand in the 2018-19 school year, as ACES provides our first ever in-school program outside of the Roaring Fork Valley.
Over the next three years, ACES plans to extend to all elementary schools in the Garfield County Re-2 School District
, which includes Silt, Rifle, and New Castle.
