Orange Day in the Garden:

Abilities Awareness:
  • Walnut Grove is excited to Celebrate All Abilities this week. The Ability Awareness Program is designed to promote understanding, acceptance and appreciation of individual learning and ability differences through fun, experiential activities. By having students experience the challenges of others, we hope to foster better understanding and empathy throughout our schools.

PTA Nominating Committee

Do you care about the future of Walnut Grove?  Would you like to make sure that all of our programs and events continue and improve next year?  Now is the time to join the PTA's Nominating Committee.

This fantastic short-term volunteer opportunity is vitally important to our school: these are the people who will help find our Executive Board members for the 2018-19 school year.

The Nominating Committee members will meet only once in late January and work on this project for a month, mostly communicating over email.

Please contact PTA Parliamentarian Samantha Carella at [email protected] if you are interested in joining the committee or have any questions.

National Geographic Bee

The National Geographic Bee is going to be held at Walnut Grove for the very first time!  We are also the first elementary school in our district to host this fabulous competition.

This annual event is designed to inspire and reward students' curiosity about the world around us - its people and cultures, flora and fauna, its history and economies, and to learn more about maps, places and landscapes. National Geographic provides resources to prepare for the Bee by clicking here  . Sample questions and further information will be emailed to all registered students.

The Geographic Bee will take place  on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 4:00pm and is open to all 4th and 5th grade students . Our school champion has the opportunity to take the online qualifying test be considered for advancement to the state Bee.

We are also in need of some volunteers to help with this event.  If you would like to help out, please contact Deepta Rao at [email protected] .

PPIE Survey

PPIE wants your opinion!  If you haven't already done so, please complete this short 8-question survey and tell us what you think PPIE should fund at your school for next year.

This year, they're funding extra hours for librarians and site tech specialists at all elementary and middle schools, as well as extra class sections in high school to reduce class size.  Next year, with your support, they can do more!  So tell them what you want!

PPIE will then confer with your principal's office and with District (PUSD) leadership to fund supplemental staff to best support your students.  AND REMEMBER, particularly for new donors, PLEASE DONATE TO OUR SUPER MATCH CAMPAIGN, which runs NOW through Super Bowl Sunday on February 4.  If more people donate, we can reach the levels of other school districts that have almost 80% participation rates and raise $millions for great school staff and programs!

Visit www.ppie.org to learn more about the campaign and to donate.  And don't forget to take our short survey!
