The Super Bowl is America's most watched national sporting event. On Super Bowl Sunday, February 4th, there will be lots of game day socializing that may include drinking.
WAMPO is joining the effort with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) urging football fans to plan ahead for a safe ride home.

Count Event Background
Every year WAMPO coordinates an annual count of bicycle and pedestrian activity across 35 different sites in Park City, Goddard, Andover, Mulvane and Wichita to name a few.
The data collected during these counts helps to estimate the number of people and locations people bicycle, walk and run. Once collected, the data is used to plan the location of future bicycle and pedestrian investments.
This effort would not be possible without the commitment of our VOLUNTEERS each year!

Wichita Transit Updates
|
Partnerships with Wichita Schools
Wichita Transit has announced plans to continue it's partnership with USD 259 into the spring semester of 2018, following the success of the Student Bus Pass program amid 7 pilot high schools and middles last year.
This year,
John Marshall Middle School will join the pilot program as the 8th school to participate in the pilot.
Every student in USD 259 is eligible to purchase a discounted student monthly or semester pass that gives them unlimited access to the Wichita Transit's bus system.
To date, the program has given students over 3,300 rides!
Pilot Commuter Route to Ark City Planned for Early 2018
 Wichita Transit is in the planning stages to introduce a pilot commuter route to Arkansas City with an anticipated start time of late February 2018.
The route is being designed around the needs of the manufacturing industry in the area and will provide one trip in the morning and one trip in the afternoon between Ark City and Wichita.
With an unemployment rate of just 3%, industry in Cowley County often struggles to find employees nearby, and therefore works to attract workers from the Wichita area.
Employees who live in Wichita often cannot afford the cost to commute to Cowley County every day. This commuter route has the potential to bring reliable, low-cost transportation to the region connecting available jobs to those looking for them.

Crash Data
New crash data are available for the WAMPO region through 2016.
There is a clear upward trend in fatalities since 2011, with an average of 49.6 deaths in our region from 2012-2016.
There were 57 fatalities in 2016 alone.
In contrast, serious injuries have been declining, and are down more than 30% since 2008.

Ozone Update
The Wichita region had an excellent ozone season in 2017!
Ozone levels at the three monitors in our region ranged from 63-65 parts per billion, well under the federal limit of 70ppb.
This is our third year of excellent ozone levels in a row and based on these numbers the EPA has officially decided our region is in attainment of federal air quality standards.

On December 12, 2017 the Transportation Policy Body adopted the 2018 UPWP. This document lists and describes the planning activities that WAMPO and our planning partners will perform during the calendar year. Click

Amendment Notice:
Transportation Improvement Program (TIP)
A public review and comment period is now open for 4th amendment to the WAMPO TIP.
The TIP is a short-range program that identifies transportation projects to be implemented in the WAMPO region over a 4 year period. All projects using Federal funds in the region are required to be included in the TIP and represented in the long-range transportation plan (MOVE 2040).

In southern Sedgwick County, the 95th Street corridor - primarily from Broadway to Woodlawn - often is
cited as an area where improved access and mobility could support future growth needs.
The purpose of the ARC95 study was to develop a long-range plan for the 95th Street corridor.
